Cant get some TV shows to detect with Fix Match

i can not get some Tv shows to show up… drives me nuts also how the TheTVDB works too as if a movie is 1997 but a tv show is 1998 that tv show is considered to start in 1997… and they dont wanna fix it over there

but i been converting my old VHS tapes to the computer and some dvds but the Plex cant detect these shows
these show up as blank covers

C.O.P.S. (1988) <<< This one shows up twice “C O P S” + “Two Cops”
Life with Louie (1994)
Spider-Man (1967)
Millennium (1996)
Ewoks (1985)
Disney’s Hercules (1998)
The Amazing Spider-Man (1977)
The Royal (2003)
The Shining (1997)

and why do some Of the TV SHows when you click the … dots its shows up as “Match” and sometimes “Fix Match” why is it flip flopping?

and if you even tell thetvdb support they wrong in a listing they blast you that your wrong
drives you mad and they dont consider Netflix,Amazon,IMDB, legitiment links for tv show listings

ive tried cleaning optimizing database… it be nice also to choose from IMDB not the TheTVDB when they are wrong… i know the moviedatabase has tv shows but plex isnt finding the shows from there either… it can find other shows but these arent

especially C.O.P.S. as its saying . is a space… when its not there are no Spaces… you gotta add the periods bettween each letter

i have a bunch of movies they are labled right from IMDB but plex cant find them from either Legacy or the Movie DB search but working on 1 thing at a time

i finally getting something to work i think maybe with pandemic everyone using it its picked up some tv shows… it still doesnt like C.O.P.S. and movies kinda worked i doing a total refresh

but drives me nuts with the thtvdb like amazing spider-man from 1977 with the pilot should be 1977 when plex finds it it uses 1978 but majority of the time it will give the year of movies or specials so if a tv show was 1966 and a tv movie was 1955 it will choose 1955 in the plex for finding tv show… not the 1966 nothing is consistant and it bounces around soo much… theres not 1 standard really…

Start here:Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support

ya i do proper naming i take it
like
Location: /Videos/TV Shows/Cartoons/C.O.P.S. (1988)
Folder Season 1
C.O.P.S. (1988) - S01E01 - The Case of the Stuck-Up Blimp

and plex cant find it…
TV shows Point to TV Shows folder as root
and i have another folder
Cartoon TV Shows that Points to Cartoons Folder as Root

so i find i have to do Fix Match or Match i have to remove the year in the search
then it finally worked… or for the Movies i rename it to the IMDB name

i do find if i do the Match it will find it in the Search and its exactly how i typed it in
say Rush Hour 1
Plex cant find it but when i do the Search it finds it i just using it as an example
so sometimes the right spelling it cant find it but finds it wehn you do the Match/Fix Match button

what does it mean when it cant find the show

i click match.. it shows the show.. i click it and it starts spinning and what not then stops no artwork you click in it and there is info and actors but its all Gray still no images i let it sit for an hour but it did do anything i did it again and nothing happened.. still gray
what does that mean? but when you goto thetvdb there are pictures there so shouldnt it be adding them in?

Which agent is selected in the properties of your tv show library?

its Plex Legacy that seems to be checked off first.
i find neither Legacy or the The TV DB or for Movies the 2
i find sometimes i gotta remove the year for it to search
and it comes up with 20 options that are not even close to the name
say COPS
it will come up with options with different years and 3-6 word titles for “C.O.P.S.” so its almost hit and miss i find…

The Royal issue i had to do the Same to get it to find “The Royal” but the images wouldnt load i found using the Penicil it does have the images in there but it doesnt select it had to manually…

so not sure if its just the names plex cant handle or its a issue with thetvdb.com as i find things are consistant over there …its out by a year and that causes pproblems too
i semi got them all but the years they offer and real series differ… or you fight with them that the show is missing episodes but its considered there DVD episode listing but i cant get plex or renamer to rename by DVD TV show listing

like argued with thetvdb… When calls the heart season 3 is like a 10 episode season
well to hallmark its a 8 episode… but Amazon, Netflix, DVD say its a 10 episode
and then they tell ya its a DVD release not tv show release. but you see the extra 2 episodes on Netflix and i dunno how you add the 2 extra episodes when the tv show renamer i have uses thetvdb and its frustrating i cant get my dvd rips to work right because they say its dvd series not a tv series
drives me nuts

I don’t think you looked in the properties of your Plex library, but rather in the general settings of your server.

Please leave out the issues with TheTVDB and “DVD order” for now. We cannot tackle them all at once.

not sure the difference?
i was saying i clicked on the TV Show that shows un matched or the show isnt showing right etc
i clicked “MATCH” or “FIX MATCH”
then you choose Search options
gotta remove year
and i change the agent from plex legacy to the theTVDB
if it doesnt find it through plex legacy with year removed…

not sure another way how you make it work every time withouth issue

and doesnt matter if you have the show “C.O.P.S.” or “The Royal”
plex cant find it it comes up with 20 different listings that arent close
for either setting

but right now i was trying to take a screen shot
of C.O.P.S. and The Royal
but i think maybe the servers are updating? i get “No Matchs”
so i cant do screen shots for ya
for either Tv Shows or Movies
using the MATCH or FIX MATCH button

ill try again later and take some screen grabs

No.
You go into the preferences of the library. Edit your library
The default agent is found on the “Advanced” tab.

ok i took some screen shots on what i have .. i really dont know that is the 100% best setting be
be nice if there were no options that it did a
does 1.. if it cant find it go to the next option if cant find goto 3rd setting.. so i just left it as default as it doesnt say what is the best 100% option that works every time correctly.. so i just set it and hope for the best
i have had it where i put a DVD of say Married with children.. and Plex uploaded the wrong show to it.. was labled correctly.. but i was then watching say Green Acres.. so it added the wrong show.. but that was an older version of plex

Neither of these required Fix Match.
They both came up instantly.
Edit your library again/Advanced - Disable: ‘Prefer Local Metadata’.

C.O.P.S.:

(no episode image available - used my test file screengrab)

The Royal:

(Episode images gathered from: “God Only Knows” - they don’t exist at TVDB)

Anyway, I suspect poor structuring/naming or embedded title fields is making a mockery of the matching process.

(Windows wouldn’t let me add a trailing dot to the “C.O.P.S.” Folder Show Name… didn’t seem to matter)

ah ok
for my cops i mentioned earlier its labled
Location: /Videos/TV Shows/Cartoons/C.O.P.S. (1988)
Folder name is “C.O.P.S. (1988)”
Folder “Season 1”
File Structure “C.O.P.S. (1988) - S01E01 - The Case of the Stuck-Up Blimp”

i do options
“All TV Shows” and it points to location /Videos/TV Shows" as the root
“Cartoons” and it points to location /Videos/TV Shows/Cartoons" as root

how do i know if there is meta tag i figured there shouldnt be any meta tags..
is there a program that erases all meta tags of all files that works well?

and the Edit your library again/Advanced - Disable: ‘Prefer Local Metadata’.
isnt an option for TV Shows just movies is there another setting?

so i re ran the fix matchs.. and now they are the first option probably cuz i manually did it..
but can you re run your scan and see if you get the Same for COPS and THE ROYAL

is there a test to make sure i got Plex working correctly internet correct it connecting properly?
and a meta tag deleter thats recommended for plex?
like a bulk one i can do my entire database..
here couple screen shots i got now
but COPS used to be near the bottom and same the Royal
oh and my Royal File Structure is
/Videos/TV Shows/Drama/
Folder “The Royal (2003)”
Folder “Season 1”
File “The Royal (2003) - S01E01 - First Impressions”

There is no (YEAR) field in either one of these show names:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-royal

The Royal

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/c-o-p-s

C.O.P.S.

The most sound advice I can give is to ALWAYS use the EXACT show name at TVDB. It’s what I did and it worked instantly.

The BEST metadata to have in your video files - is NONE.

so you mean your supposed to not do Years for the folders?
what about if you get 2 TV Shows that are the same

Say Cheers from the 80s and then there is a reboot of Cheers in 2021
how would you do that then? does 1 get a folder year or not
as i did all my Tv shows with Name of show (Year it was made in)

so i been doing it all wrong?

but then the link
Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support

shows you add the Year to the folder name…

so your supposed to go TV SHOW (YEAR)
so i confused unless the theTVDB is doing it wrong?

well nothing is perfect… just now its working and like i mentioned i renam everything to IMDB.
but apparently they are wrong too
if ia movie is 2020 or 2021 they report it as 2019 Fiming Date and the date is messed up there
and IMDB according to TheTVDB is not a legitment website for facts of shows

so i end up renaming a show to the TheTVDB just to get it to work or a Movie as there is discrempencys with a Filming year, Premire Release, Actual Release, for movies…
but what can ya do

It seems rather obvious to me:

I use FileBot.
Filebot goes to TVDB and gets the name they use.
I rarely get a mismatch. Almost never.
It just works.

but i followed Proper Plex naming
Some important notes:

  • For the “Plex TV Series” agent, it is recommended to always include the year alongside the series title in folder and file names, e.g. /Band of Brothers (2001)/Season 01/Band of Brothers (2001) - s01e01 - Currahee.mkv

but re reading it talks about using the IMDB TTnumber which i may need to do for future reference

… and when I do that - I get a 60% match failure rate.
When Filebot gets the EXACT name from TVDB - 99% Success rate.

It ain’t rocket surgery.

ok got it… your saying the Plex documentation is wrong they shouldnt write that
more like
do not always include year as you may have trouble

i was following what Plex docs says what to do

ill remember to try it for the next one

If TVDB uses a (YEAR) field - you do the same.
IF TVDB doesn’t use a (YEAR) field - you do the same.

That’s what FileBot does.
FileBot Works.
