I could be way off the mark here but plex uses { } and emby uses [ ] so a decision by plex to use a different bracket makes is more difficult to use both servers side by side with the same media.
Maybe it’s a coincidence but if I worked for plex then that’s what I’d do.
Just a quick question before I really start using this scanner (which is pretty darn good).
If in TVDB there are multiple series by the same name, the newer ones will have the year as part of the name. So you might see:
Poldark (which came out in 1975)
and
Poldark (2015) which came out in 2015.
Previously I have been naming the series as Poldark and Poldark (2015).
My question is - is there any harm and might it actually help to name the original series Poldark (1975)?
As in will it hurt if you put the release year on all TV series and will that help the scanner find them more easily?
I’m trying to figure out why my metadata directory is ballooning with a couple of 100GB. While checking and contrasting against a clean install of Plex with an older database (before I enabled the beta scanner) I can see most metadata directories containing an extra “Uploads” directory (next to the already existing “Contents” directory) which contains “art, posters, seasons” directories. What is the purpose of the “Uploads” directory? And would that mean stuff in that directory is also being uploaded? I’ve removed it a couple of weeks ago but it’s coming back so I’m curious what it does, why it’s ballooning my metadata directory and if I can just clean it out on an interval.
When I tried the new scanner when it was first released there wasn’t any support for TheTVDB translations for tv series. Has that been changed or is it still the same? Not to keen on start using this yet if it hasn’t been added .
are there plans to expose the ‘network’ field via the api calls for getting metadata about a show? The studio field is now useless for me since I need the actual network.
I didn’t yet try either of the new agents, and I wonder whether they have some features I was missing in the old ones:
Can featurettes/local extras for movies and shows have some indication for whether I watched them? And watched progress. Some extras are quite long (GoT is quite a LOT to handle, hours and hours of content), so I would really like being able to see which ones left to watch.
Can featurettes exist without the main movie/show files? Often it takes a long time to watch all the extras, so currently I have to replace the movie with a smaller version, but an option to delete it but keep the extras would be nice.
Did you update the Trakt plugin? I’ve heard it’s supposed to be working with TV too after they fixed support for the new Movie agent. I also use the plugin and want to make sure everything I need will still be working before moving to the new agents.
Well, yes and no. It’s working partially for some series (Swedish better than Norwegian). There is still a big problem with series that only exist on TVDB and not TMDB. There is still a problem with episode descriptions not being picked up at all, or choosing lesser quality ones.
I wrote a new topic about this (Pinned support topic for metadata in Plex TV Series agent that needs fixing?), with the question of how are we best seeking help in correcting wrong metadata in the new PTVS. Do you @drzoidberg33 have any roadmap or information on how Plex is going to handle this? Like I wrote in the thread, we should really have a pinned support topic with someone from Plex with access that can correct stuff.
Is there a different thread I should follow for when show/season/episode level extras will appear on various clients (specifically on web), or will the Plex devs be posting them in this one?
Should be mentioned in the release announcements for Plex Web… might be mentioned here as well – however given this thread is going in all kinds of directions it might be harder to follow
Has there been any progress with matching to TheTVDB DVD order? I’m still seeing shows that aren’t picking up episode info when using that agent (or picking up some seasons but not all). For instance, PJ Masks seems to be picking up Season 2 and 3 info, but not Season 1 and 4 info.
DVD order from TheTVDB is working for me on the two shows I use it on… you might get more effective resolution by creating a new thread and providing details about the specific shows and how they aren’t matching up.
Plex picks up the episodes on the drive, but does not load any metadata from TheTVDB for seasons 1 or 4, even after doing the usual dance after version updates. Season 2 and 3 do pick up correct metadata from the DVD order.
