Better Playlists

Does anyone (from moderators, to developers, to general users) have any insight into this???

Insight into what? Does it work? It does.

Follow the instructions for getting a plexserver instance.

plex = PlexServer(PLEX_URL, PLEX_TOKEN)

plex.playlist('Playlist name').copyToUser('user_name')

or for all your playlists

plex = PlexServer(PLEX_URL, PLEX_TOKEN)

for playlist in plex.playlists():
    playlist.copyToUser('user_name')

Also, nice find!

+1 sharing a playlist. For now, i have to manually create playlist folders for each friend and create symlinks to the media files/folders. This feature will make my life much easier.

Does it simply do a direct copy, or will it remain synchronized as the original playlist is updated?
I am assuming it is a one-time thing, unless you programmatically remove and re-create the playlist.

But thanks for the simplistic example… I may try this out, and then add it to a scheduled task to keep the playlist(s) in synch…

I would assume it’s a one time thing. I think you have the right idea though, run a task or cron to keep the playlist updated.

@KnightCat83, Do you do this through the dynamic playlist option, or do you manually update as new episodes are added?

I have been doing this manually since the watch order is not necessarily the release order, which is annoying in and of itself.

Next version of WebTools, when released, will have a Playlist module!

To join the Beta, look here

Oh that looks nice @dane22 . will there be a setting in the module to run it as a cron?

Scheduled stuff is not part of the next version, but might be something to consider for the future though :wink:

Need to be able to have all users (or even better a checkbox for each user!) have access to playlists. Thanks.

Yes, please let us share our playlists

Plex users seem to be incurable optimists.
Although this would be a feature you would expect…
This will NEVER happen.
The OP is over 3 years old (Aug 2014)…

But keep hoping.

iTunes is over 10 years old and its still a piece of wasted space too but doesn’t mean its any better than it was back then. the only reason why i need iTunes is because some family members insist in using old classic iPods instead of sticking in a 128GB microsd in a unused android phone and calling it done. Proper playlist management features are a must, along with automatic volume leveling and a embedded equalizer. I’m more optimistic of Plex than I am for iTunes. It’s sad to say but the Music section of Plex does not get used by anyone in my household - it lacks so much still. The music is in a Music Library just in case Plex decides to add in new features to bump it up. I use VLC and Media Monkey on all Android devices in the house. Plex for Movies and TV shows.

Months ago Plex changed the rules for this request by splitting it out to a new request but not taking the votes already cast over to the new topic. If this does not tell you Plex has no interest in doing this nothing will. BTW - I don’t use iTunes so I could care less what they do or how bad / good that is. I do use Plex and care what they do.

Not sharing, but as close as possible…

Thanks for the post dane22, I’m downloading WebTools now. B)

Does plex add any features requested by users anymore? Or do we need to go to Emby for that.

Please add this, been waiting years now.

+1 for shared playlists. I thought they were this way already, but I was wrong. Please add, at least a way to make playlists global or not.

+1 for shared playlists. I’m the 452nd like on this subject. Please prioritize this.
