Better Playlists

Sometimes I wonder if the devs even look here… The thread with top voted is updated 05/17/2017 and nothing new since then…

Also don’t know why this would be so hard to implement yet such a common feature on endless platforms. Quite disappointed this isn’t available.

The greatest use for this IMP is for TV shows with multiple overlapping series and movies. Stargate is a great example where there are 2 series and 3 movies all happening in a specific, overlapping order. It would be great to be able to put all these in a playlist and have them accessible just like a library on the server.
FYI: the playlist is about 9 days long right now…

yes, please

It’s a shame we lost the like count on this, so let’s use Discourse’s upvote feature to make this feature request really visible!! Make sure you vote for this feature at the top of the topic!!

Honestly, I think this is a bit part of Thread: Recommend server content (not just queued)

Where it s about sharing Server Content.

Yeah, I am now vote number 6 on this…which is funny since this is 1 of 2 features I get 100’s of email notices about. LOL!!! Oh well, new software, new counts… Please, VOTE FOR THIS FEATURE AT THE VERY TOP OF THIS LIST… Use the scroll bar that shows posts/dates to go to the top quickly.

I have so many friends that use my server and we all have similar likes… I really want to share the playlists I create on my server so they can use them when they access my server. It should simply be another LIBRARY type on the main screen. Playlists / Movies/ TV Shows / etc… I have spent hours putting together playlists for Stargate, Star Trek, Babylon 5, etc… with every episode and movie where it goes… Same with movie series’ like Avengers, X-Men, etc…

This has to be one of the MOST requested features (based on the number of email topic replies I get daily) for it. It really can’t be that hard of a feature to add. It really is just another library in the database… Allow it to be shared on our servers!!!

Please!

I’ve now read a whole lot of this thread, but I don’t think anyone one man could get through this whole thing and maintain a full time job… I came to find ideas how to handle MCU movies, and found what I was looking for I think.

I’m still left with a feeling of bewilderment why there are two different systems: Playlists, and Collections. It seems to me that a lot of frustration could be avoided if we could have a “Custom” sort order for Collections. Collections work very well for MCU, because you can have an overall Marvell collection, a Thor collection, etc. But you’re stuck with limited sort options.

A collection is simply a GROUP of movies or TV shows of a type the server owner decides on.

Example: I have collections of movies for Hitchcock, Avengers, Westerns, Disaster, Submarine, Flight, etc…

A Play List is a PLAYING ORDER.

Example: I have a PLAY LIST for every movie/tv show in chronological (stardate) order for Star Trek. A collection will group them, but it can’t put them into the correct playing order (unless you only need play order based on DATE of release.) I also have one for Stargate (movies, tv episodes from each series in AIR / chronological order.) And one for j michael straczynski suggested viewing order for Babylon 5 tv episodes and movies.

NONE of those can be done via collections. And what we are all craving is the ability to create a play list (My Star Trek play list took me a couple hours to create) and then allow those that use our server (friends, family, etc…) to have access to that play list. So THEY can enjoy things as we want them to see / hear them.

Agreed. Sharing Collection isn’t what we need.

But just sharing Playlists isn’t either. It should also be possible to recommend a single file on the server.

One is recommending a certain Play Order on a Server the other one is recommending a file on that Server. Really think those 2 threat’s should be merged. Just because “recommend Server content” includes Playlists.

I think it’s fair to say that many People are waiting for this.

In my case it is what makes the music Player better than spotify and google music. I know I’ll never have their libraries, but I can recommend friends on my Server songs and playlists. I can make them “cd” like I used to 15 years ago and I’d really look foreward to that. Or just share a cool new song/Movie/Serie.

330 comments but only 10 votes…y’all need to vote this up if you want Plex devs to see it and know it’s a highly requested feature!

Honestly I think even if it gets “only” 10 votes for now. It’s closely related to Recommend server content (not just queued) . Which also has a few votes.

Eventually/hopefully we’ll see it implemented in a Solution which includes both Requests. Looking forward to it.

Related, but different, for me. I make playlists for stuff like The Star Trek Chronology Project and sorting Looney Tunes episodes by character since TVDB went full ■■■■■■ back in 2012 over the matter.

As long as something gets implemented tho, I’ll be happy.

This should have been implemented from the beginning. Sharing playlists across users and friends should be the highest priority for new development.

+1 for sharing playllists

I too have created some music and movie playlists for myself that I’d like to share with others.

This should have been on Plex from the start, as it stands if I want to share I have to use DS Audio, which I hate now I have Plex = please add this for an early Xmas gift to your members:)

If anyone that has added a +1 here hasn’t voted for this issue yet, please do so by clicking the [Vote] button at the top of the thread. I had previously missed this and just voted now!

Sorry - why is this still open - since 4 years? This would be such a great feature. What the webtools provide seems more like copying which would mean they would eventually get ouf of sync.

Can someone from plex provide some feedback on weather this is a feature that is actually on the roadmap?

Sorry, but Plex never talks about their roadmap

lol again … 4 years, 340 comments, and still nothing… good job
