I would like to see improved posters/covers quality on desktop clients or, at least, option for overriding default quality setting.
Even with locally supplied art (JPG poster 1000x500), PHT displays movie art
significantly reduced
noticeably compressed
Thanks for considering.

As far as i know, the images are the ones that are available from the individual metadata provider.
The one agent i have made, does not compress the image, but if the framework does, it does not show up in any log-files.
So, my guess would be, that for the image quality to be better, it needs to be updated on the Internet.
Have you by any chance tried to DL the same poster from thetvdb.com and added it manually, to see if the quality is any different ?

Yup, posters available on themoviedb are mostly 1000x500 so source quality should be sufficient. It happens though even if you use local assets and supply poster.jpg in local folder.
I understand that some resizing needs to take place but currently quality is below average and additional compression is very unpleasant, especially on some covers. At least it is for me, on 55" TV
Try 1080 in advancedsettings.xml

AWESOME!!!!!!
It works, my god I was longing for high quality art for sooo long.
The tedious work finding high quality posters finally pays off :D

Well, it's hard to tell as neither Refresh nor Change Art seems to work in PHT at the moment. Any hints on how to test?

OK, new release seems to have updated thumbs.
Thanks, looks better now. And I don’t want to sound ungrateful but PMS keeps compressing images that are being sent to the client. Mediastream is lightning fast in this release even with better quality thumbs so, IMHO, there’s no need for thumb compression.

Is this rendered unnecessary in the new build posted today?

Compression artifacts are not so obvious on 55" TV as are on 20"iMac. Plex looks WAY better now. Thanks once more.

You have to create it yourself in the "userdata" folder.

Just want to be sure but you create a txt file that you call “advancedsettings.xml” and place it in the Plex Media Center (or Plex Home Theater) UserData Folder with only:
1080
in it?

@Ismelda : The contents of the file should look like this:
<advancedsettings><br />
<imageres>1080</imageres><br />
</advancedsettings>

Thanks.
I guess that Plex download and store the high rez posters and only display the resized version right. Because I don’t see how putting that in the PMC/PHT would affect the actual poster size while it has never been told to the PMS to get them in the first place.

Yes, I guess. There are still some compression artifacts even with this setting as oposed to browsing with plexbmc, where they look perfect!
