I am unable to get Plex to recognize Blade Runner 2049. I presume it has to do with the way I’ve named it, but I’ve tried Blade Runner 2049 2017, Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Blade Runner 2017, and Plex finds none of these. Any tips?
It’s not that there’s a problem with the match. That I could fix manually. It doesn’t even show up in the list of movies, no matter how many times I tell Plex to scan the library.
The only other thing I can think of is to move the file to a non-Plex library folder, re-scan your library, then re-add the file into a Plex library file and re-scan the library.
I just tried your recommendation. It didn’t work. The only thing that seemed different was that the circle around the “activity” symbol in the upper left stayed on longer than it had, like it was “considering it.”
Hmmm… maybe create a new folder, put BR 2049 in it. Then, add that new folder to the library under settings, manage libraries, edit Movies, add folders.
I have a desktop PC which I am using as my Plex server. It has two 8 TB drives, x and z drives, each with a Movie folder and Television folder. Plex has links to these two folders in the Movies and Television libraries. There are about 150 movies on the x drive which Plex has no problems seeing, but it can’t see this one.
Thanks for telling me how to access the logs. This appears to be the relevant lines from the log, at its very end:

I don’t know why there should be an issue with the file which was created from the original disc by MakeMKV. It seems there is an issue with subtitles. If I removed all but the one English subtitle I need, would that work???
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I knew I was going crazy, and I guess I was. Using folder view, I found it, and somehow it got linked to, wait for it… “Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood”! which appears to have two movies connected to it. When I click on one, it is, indeed, Blade Runner 2049.
I don’t know how that happened, but I will work on fixing it tomorrow.
I was able to “split” the two movies apart. Two posters for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood appeared. I tried playing both, and there were two different movies. The one that was actually Blade Runner as soon as I clicked on “match,” Blade Runner 2049 showed up. I clicked on it, and the poster for Blade Runner 2049 appeared in my list. I’ve now tried both movies, and it seems I am all set.
This is crazy. I had the exact same thing happen to me with this movie. Appreciate the post. Otherwise, I think I would have torn the rest of my hair out.
Interesting that this has happened multiple times!
For any future readers: Assuming you’re using the new Plex Movie Scanner, one way to solve this would be to rename the video file, adding the IMDB TT number associated with the movie. Like this:
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) {tt1856101}.mkv
Then scan that library again, and Plex should have the ability to match it better. Here’s the movie’s IMDB page so you can confirm that code is still correct:
This happened to me also with the same movies. Unlike OP though, when I try to split the movies I get an error. Any tips?
Edit: Managed to split them but now the match feature isn’t working. I find Blade Runner using the match option and nothing happens, still getting Once upon a time poster and description.
Same thing just happened to me. Blade Runner 2049 was merged with Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. I split them, but both Plex Movie and The Movie Database are unable to match the file to the actual film.
Edit: was able to fix it. For some reason the database searches were defaulting to Searching the year 2021 as the release date of the film. Entering the proper release date (2017) and it was able to find the film in the Plex Movie database. All better!
