Blank screen on 2013 Mac Pro

If this happens again, try editing plex.ini and deleting everything in the [ui] section. Doing so should tell Plex for Mac/Win to use the default monitor. Also preserves other Plex for Mac/Win settings.

Still requires manual intervention, but a bit less painful than a full uninstall / reinstall.

Nice Fix BW!

Also 2013 Mac Pro, AMD 700 GPUs. This fixed.

This editing the .ini file (ini-file is just a bad habit from Windows) seems like a nice work around BUT this is not a solution.
First: I hope disabling the GPU is not what it sounds like. A GPU does serve a purpose.
Second: If it really need to be, then the Application can and must detect that itself.

This solution also worked for me!

Same problem here, but…!

I edited the plex.ini file, restarted the app and it made no difference. I got a black screen.

I’m on the last intel MacBook Pro 16" (2019), using an eGPU (Radeon RX Vega 64) in a Razer Core X enclosure. Running Plex app v1.44.0, macOS 12.4.

Here’s a better fix. If this blank screen is caused by an eGPU (in my case that’s the cause), just select the Plex app in the Finder, hit ⌘+I and in the info window check [x] Prefer external GPU.

This ways you won’t get the blank screen. I found that with that setting window resizing is mostly smooth on the external display, but abysmal on the internal display. Well, I’ll be saying goodbye to my eGPU and intel Mac soon anyway, so for the time being this at least works.

Just installed 1.46.1 - same blank window issue. Back to 1.43 - the last version that works. Did the devs really back themselves into a corner they can’t program their way out of? Seriously - the last 3x versions are broken!

What’s or where is the corresponding .ini file on my Mac Pro?

~/Library/Application Support/Plex/plex.ini
