Would you mind sharing the full logs from the app. They should be in ~/Library/Logs/Plex/plex.log

I am having this same problem as well as others all with a MacPro 6,1 from the looks of it. Here’s my thread: Mac Player Cannot Establish Connection to Server(s) - This is starting to be a big problem! Please @BigWheel help us!

Same issue with me, here my logs (anonymised)

plex.log (68.5 KB)

Maybe to clarify, even tough I guess developers know their bin.
My output above is StdOut when starting Plex.app/Contents/MacOS/Plex in Terminal.
I attach unmodified logs below.
Plex.log (122.9 KB)

Does the behavior change the app is opened using the Finder or Dock?

NO. I do not normally start GUI apps by terminal. But since Plex only came up with an empty windows without ANY information whatsoever I tried the terminal way to at least get StdOut.

I figured, just checking! There have been issues with environment variables and PMS. I haven’t looked at the logs - you’ve already got the right people on the thread for that.

Same here - just a blank App Screen

@dherrickd if you don’t mind can you share the logs from the app. Windows/Mac app logs | Plex Support (You can message them to me if you don’t want to post them here)

@BigWheel did you see my attachment…? it’s from the logs of the app

Hey @BigWheel the logs that @snigg posted look pretty similar, if not identical, to the ones that I posted in the other thread. It looks like all of us with MacPro 2013 (6,1) are having the problem! As a paying customer with nothing changing on my end network or OS wise and not knowing your official position with Plex, can you ensure that developers are look at this issue for us? If its happening to us, its happening to others. Not trying to be rude just frusrated. Thank you.

yes @naaboo1 I added your logs to bug report. thanks

@iamdinux the log snippet you posted in other topic was about server connection.

This topic (which I may very well be misunderstanding) is based on it loading with a black/blank screen indicating some graphical problem with renderer.

I have no doubt others are running into this issue as well but need to find the commonalities if a proverbial smoking gun is not found. I have three Macs of various generations and can’t reproduce it myself on any of them but obviously it is happening to you.

If you can provide the full app logs after reproducing the black screen issue so I can add to bug report it would be appreciated. You can message them to me if you don’t want to post them in the topic.

I as well want to note my “discomfort” in the fact that I am not aware of any software change I made and still the Plex application ceased to work from one start to another…

Speculations: My MacPro (6.1) has two GPUs and a Xeon E5 (12 core) as CPU. So the combination seems kind of special in comparison with other macs. Is this a issue with the Xeon not providing something multimedia e.g. decoding commands…? GPUs (AMD FirePro D300) Slot-1 seems only for computations and all my 3 displays are fed by the GPU in slot-2.

The log that I posted is the full log as described in the link that you provided. Also, I am able to load Plex just fine on my 2020 Mac Mini M1 sitting on the same network. This issue is directly related to the MacPro 6,1 (2013) Trash can which everyone that has commented in this post about this issue is using. Also, as I previously mentioned, I am getting the blank screen just like these folks are. Nothing is different, I have the same symptoms. I mentioned that it looked like a connection problem because according to the logs, it is showing a connection issue and the logs that @snigg provided are showing the same symptoms (connection problem). Can you provide us a way to download an older client like 3-4 versions back so that we can see it an older client works please? Also, how do I turn on verbose logging?

Please note: I am a 20 year IT veteran. I know how to troubleshoot problems. Linux and Mac are my core operating systems so log files are nothing new to me. Let me know what I can do to help further as I would like to see this resolved.

So I just got a rather old version (1.39.1) back with TimeMachine and this version is working… The version not working is 1.44.0.
I attached an unmodified log of the successful application start on the very same MacPro that the new App fails.
Plex.log (136.3 KB)

DHD_PlexLogs.zip (94.0 KB)
Yup got a few of them, I did notice an update pushed out after I quit and started the Plex app. After, that nothing but a grey/blank app screen.

I also noticed this; my app updated on a reboot and confirm 1.44.0 is now just a blank app screen. Working fine before…

Same here. Rolling back a version for a bit.

Ditto. Mac Pro 6,1 MacBot/Trash Can with os 10.14.6. Uninstalled and reinstalled fresh download (Plex 1.44.0.2981). Server on a older Mac Pro 3,1 (Plex Server 1.26.0.5715).

On the MacPro 6,1, desktop Plex Player just shows a grey screen. Connecting via Safari to the PlexServer works as it should.

On the MacPro 3,1 when I go to Plex Preferences using the localhost, the screen just has the Plex logo, no other snippets appear. (code attached).

(a link to an older version that won’t auto-update would be terrific)
