Plex keeps "forgetting Titles" in whole Albums in Music Library

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409-f11334058
Player Version#: Plexamp 3.9.1 / WebPlayer (Chrome/Brave)

I noticed the following behaviour:

  • Plex keeps forgetting random titles in the music library
  • If it happens ALL the titles in an album are gone
  • Noticing in Plexamp and Webplayer
  • Refreshing Metadata fixes the problem for that album but other albums keep having the error
  • Reproducable - not sure. It happens to different albums
  • Am I the only one - No - here is a Reddit thread

Additional information.

  • Plexamp is showing the Artist, Album and Rating > Title Missing
  • Webplayer Album list shows the titles (in bold, as by design)
  • When playing only Artist, Album and Rating are shown (Small view and Fullscreen)
  • if you edit the track (pen symbol) the Titel Field is empty

Even more nerdy information:
I did write a python script using plexapi to check what the DB will deliver… Same result… Python script is here if you want to try it…

from plexapi.server import PlexServer
from plexapi.audio import Audio
from plexapi.audio import Artist

baseurl = 'http://server:32400'
token = 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx'
plex = PlexServer(baseurl, token)

def get_tracklist(artist, album):
    tracks = plex.library.section("Music").get(artist).album(album).tracks()
    counter = 0
    for i in tracks:
        print(f"Artist: ", tracks[counter].grandparentTitle, "- Album: ", tracks[counter].parentTitle,"- Titel: ", tracks[counter].title, "- Rating: ", tracks[counter].userRating)
        counter = counter + 1

get_tracklist("use-an-artist", "use-album-title")

Dear friends.
Same to me. some files show title some not.

Numerous songs have blank titles in Plex, but they have complete metadata tags

Player version# 7.27 (iphone 13)

For example one song with “empty tittle” has this xml:

Any idea to solve it? maybe it is a bug?

PD: i did all that [HowTo] Configure Plex to use embedded metadata (music) recomendations but still no title as you can see in the image.

Best regards.

I would like to add that if you search a song, then, result YES, have the correct title. You find the song by title.

maybe there is a bug

Ah yes, I hate this bug so much. I have been able to reproduce by doing the following.

1.) Add new album to plex

2.) Once the album is fully added, add a new song and re-scan library.

3.) The titles will be removed for that album, minus the new songs.

The reason why it’s not showing the song title in plexamp is because plexamp using title vs sort title. The title will also be missing from playlists. I think the web interface uses sort title, which is why you are still able to see the titles via the web interface.

Refreshing metadata doesn’t do anything for me, so this has been a major pain point for me coming up on like a year at this point.

OS: Windows Server 2019
Player version# 4.73.3 (pc)
Player version# 7.27 (iphone 13)

I updated to latest version and the files i repaired las week has been lost the titles AGAIN!!

This is not aceptable because we spend alot of time repairing manually thinks that should work automatically and once it is repaired the new update broke again.

Please review titles metadata structure code in plex server code… there is a big bug.

Best regards.

Dear @dane22 i have just updated to latest plex server version 1.25.5.5492 and it crashes title on aleatory songs. last week I repaired the title song (about 200 files) and yesterday after update plex lost the titles again . I think there is a bug in plex code. ÂżHow can i help you to look at it?

nice to help you and plex comunity
Best regards.
David

That’s my experience with this bug.
Only unmatched albums are affected.
And (in my experience) only albums which are stored in a folder organization which deviates from the recommended way: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/

I haven’t found a reliable way to reproduce this bug. That is the main reason why it’s still open.

Dear friends
I repaired all title names of songs that i have on player list (i spend 3 hours clicking on refresh metadata )
and once i updated to the new plex server version titles forgetted again… this is very anoying…
best regards
david

Just experienced the same use case:

  1. Added new album that had no match
  2. After initial add, added a missing track and re-scanned.
  3. All titles missing except for newly added track

Only unmatched albums are affected.

I know that in order to get movie matches to show up for unmatched movies, we have to go add the movies to either IMDB or TMDB and then wait for them to propagate.

Where do we add albums to get the same result?

Musicbrainz.org

I have the same problem too. The titles are showing in plex web but not plexamp.

This problem makes the app useless. It’s from 2 years now and the developers didn’t fix it.
