Is there a way to block a specific mac address from my server? Family drama that I am trying to rectify.
In your router DHCP you could assign that “unwanted” device an IP address. Then set the firewall on the device where you run your Plex server to block any traffic coming in from that IP on port 32400 (assuming you are looking to block just Plex usage.). This would work when on your LAN. I’m thinking about how to do it for remote access…
Edit: I can’t think of a way to do this by mac address for remote access. Windows firewall doesn’t appear to support filtering by mac, and typically routers NAT traffic coming in from the internet, so if you tried to block it wouldn’t work because the traffic would most likely have the mac address of your router, not the “original” source device. (Mac addresses aren’t routable.)
Honestly I think you are more likely to be successful at the authentication level for your needs. Is it viable for you to change your Plex account password? If so you could do that, then in Plex Web go to Settings -> “Authorized Devices” and deauthorize the devices that you don’t want to have access. Since you have changed your Plex password they won’t be able to sign that device back in. (I’m assuming all devices are signing in with your Plex account credentials.)
It is not possible to filter by MAC address remotely, because MAC addresses are only visible locally, in the LAN.
Agreed.
Additionally there is a PMS server Network setting for List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth. Make sure that doesn’t contain addresses that you don’t want to have access.
