Restrict remote access to a specific IP address

If I enable remote access, is there any way to restrict access to
1 or more public IP addresses, eg, a white-list?

I thought I had seen that somewhere before, but I sure can’t find
it now… Getting old stinks…

Are you using the manually specified port forwarding approach to remote access? If so, then in your router’s port forwarding rule it may allow you to specify one or more source IPs. This approach is going to be specific to your router, not Plex…

Thanks, you hit my nail right on my head!

I was/am using a manual specified port, and it was in the
router’s settings where I saw the “restrict to IP address”
rule.

Hello. I’m using the Plex “enable remote access” setting. I notice that I can specify a port, but I cannot hard code an IP address in the Plex settings. Plex automatically picks a server IP address that I do not want to use. Is there a way to force the IP address? Thanks.

What is it that you are trying to accomplish or fix by wanting to specify an IP address in Plex? This will let people be more helpful.

FYI, If you are trying to restrict what internet IP address(es) can remotely connect to your Plex instance (which is the topic of this thread), then that is configured in your router if it has that capability, not in Plex.

Random info that might help

In the Plex remote access configuration screen two IP addresses are shown that are display only because neither can be controlled or configured by Plex:

  • The IP address of your Plex computer/server. This is either configured through DHCP settings on your router or directly in the OS on the computer where you are running Plex (e.g. static IP assignment). If you are using DHCP IP assignment from your router it is typically a good idea to manually assign an IP address in the DHCP settings for your Plex computer/server because if that IP address changes it will break your remote access. If you have multiple Plex instances on different computers then you need to make sure you have selected and are configuring remote access in the Plex web interface for the Plex computer/server instance that you want.
  • Your external Internet IP address. This is specific to your internet connection and is typically assigned by your ISP.

Hello. My Apple MacMini is connected via Ethernet and WIFI on my internal home network. Each connection has a reserved IP address reserved by settings in my home router. I would like Plex to be configured to use the Apple MacMini Ethernet IP address, but the “remote access” settings in Plex always automatically picks up the Apple MacMini WIFI IP address. I have NAT added to my home router to route port 32400 to the Apple MacMini Ethernet IP. Should I just enable Plex remote access, let Plex choose whatever IP it thinks it wants and test? Thanks.

Why? If you have a wired connection, you won’t need the wireless. Unless this is a laptop which you may unplug, pick up and carry around. (But if you do that, Plex server needs to be restarted anyway.)
