While reserving judgement as to whether or not this was a good move… this change was intentional, at least for the web app:
Using the web app, there’s a “Duplicates” filter available on the library’s Library tab. If you’re culling a TV Shows-type library, you must view by Episodes for the Duplicates filter to be available:
Plex, please bring back the blue badges. They make it a lot easier to know what has duplicates and how many there are.
I get the point that having the duplicates badge on for all library filter views can make the appearance more cluttered. I get it can make checking the selection circle more challenging. However, having the version count readily available without have to dig deeper (clicking on the 3 dots, then click Get Info OR clicking to go the details page to see the “versions” field) restores the ease of use previously provided. Can there be a compromise? How about only displaying the duplicates badge when the user filters the library view for duplicates. So the previous supplied info is once again available at a higher level (without having to dig any deeper) and keeps all other filter views uncluttered.
After writing the comment above, it occurred to that this behavior isn’t supportable for TV episodes. There is no duplicates filter available.
So I have a different proposal. So, at least for Plex Web, why not create an option in the Dashboard for the Plex Web General section that allows a user the option to enable or disable (based on the default setting) duplicates badges for themselves. With a duplicates badge option enabled, the badges would then be displayed to Movie posters from library views as well as TV episode pseudo posters from the Season view, like previously. With the duplicates badge option is enabled, it would be nice if the duplicates badge also appear on the poster in the movie and TV episode details page. With duplicates badge option disabled, the behavior would be just as it is right now (ie. No badges displayed). This option would allow each user to tailor the behavior to their preferences.
