Bluetooth

I have a Pi3 attached to my TV using Rasplex 1.6.2

‘Out of the box’ I was amazed because I was able to connect my Bluetooth headphones (go into preferences and change audio settings to Bluetooth).

Anyway a couple of weeks ago although my headphones were connecting, I was getting no sound from them. Today I tried pairing a Bluetooth speaker - it connects ok but just like the headphones, I’m not getting any sound.

If anyone has any good ideas as to how to fix this, I would be most grateful.

Malcolm

Sounds like bluetooth isn’t selected in the audio output preferences any longer.

Thank you for your reply, but it definitely isn’t that. I go into the audio output preference - change from HDMI to Bluetooth - the sound stops coming from my speakers, but no sound comes from the Bluetooth device (but the Bluetooth device is definitely connected).

You may need to enable debug log, reboot, test, and upload it here.

I decided to take the easy way out - re-flashed the SD card.

The Bluetooth sound is back working again, but not 100% I watched a 90 minute programme and (say) every 20 minutes or so, the sound completely dropped out for 2 or 3 seconds and then it came back again. Odd.

I watched another programme just now through the TV’s speakers and the sound was ok all the way through. I’m as certain as I can be that the problem has nothing to do with my server or the connection to it, so it must be down to the Raspberry Pi I guess. But not really sure how to pinpoint the problem.

This happenes to me alot. I think the linux Bluetooth driver is buggy. I had the same problem with an Amazon Fire and an Amazon Echo I was testing. Then there was a update and it was rock solid.

However I still have to reboot the C2 and rPi3 often when connected to the Echo for the same signal garble or loss.

Thank you @benjaminwolf I guess I’m going to have to live with it for now.

I’m really hoping that a future release will bring (a) a stable Bluetooth driver and (b) automatic Bluetooth switching so that when I turn my headphones on the Pi automatically transfers sound to the headphones (it does that with my Apple TV4, but then again the ATV4 has loads of other problems).
