Using Fan Art as backgrounds as the iOS apps do makes text incredibly hard to read. The tvOS has long defaulted to blurred backgrounds and this is how it should be on iOS. If we recognize that’s the way it should be on very large screens, the text readability issue is even worse on smaller screens like tablets and iPads.
I understand why people like this, they see it on Netflix or in iTunes and want it in Plex. The difference is those companies have complete control over their artwork and having lots of employees to find or create artwork that works with their UI. They can get artwork that compliments the UI and doesn’t present readability issues. When you have a large library and/or Plex sometimes changes the UI without notice, it becomes very hard to find perfect artwork for every item in Plex. A blurred background fixes this. It also allows you to pick Fan Art with text for the Continued Watching area or Apple TV’s “top row” feature.
In conclusion, faded fan art (as it exits now) should be an option, but the default should be blurred… and we should at least have the option to pick blurred.
Edit: This is no longer an issue and app text is now readable.
