Does anyone know what has happened to the background art? Everything is a big blur now...

The background art that worked so well across all of my movies, TV series, documentaries, etc has now become a big blur. This appears to be a problem for many on the forum, but I haven’t seen an answer from the Plex team to help us understand if this was a design decision or something is broken. I would love to have my backgrounds back, if that is possible. Does anyone have an answer for what has happened or know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I may have found a clue to what has happened… It looks like there is supposed to be an option to either ‘blur’ or ‘dim’ the background art. I believe mine has changed from dim to blur and I can’t find a way to change it back. I am running Plex Media Server on a QNAP TS-870-Pro NAS and launching it from the QNAP web interface using a Windows 10 64-bit PC and Internet Explorer. Do I need to be using a different Plex client to be able to see the background settings?

The Web app has no configurable option for the background graphics.

Some other Plex clients have it.
Check out Plex Media Player (put it into ‘full screen’ mode)
or OpenPHT

If you want an interesting read check out this old thread from the Roku section for the life of me I still don’t get the blur.

As the thread that cscottmccoy linked shows, when the background was blurred in the past, people raised holy hell about it. Plex’s response has been to make them blurrier still, and to put the blurry background in more places. Not really sure how they decided that was going to make people happy…

Lately “happiness” of users has not been a priority for Plex. The “happiness” of users has clearly taken a backseat to something. What that “something” is is mystery greater than “who was on the grassy knoll?”

Vacation…

Thank you all for your input. It looks like this was a design decision by the Plex Team. I wish it would have been implemented a little differently, like making blur a user configurable option, or not.
