Guys,

I’m struggling to get CEC and 5.1 from rasplex (latest version) to my Bose amp.

Scenario 1:
PII > Bose HDMI (DVD/BD) > Bose HDMI (TV) > TV (Panasonic Viera).
Sound works great I get 5.1 but no CEC control

Scenario 2:
PII > TV (HDMI 1) > TV (HDMI 2 ARC) > Bose HDMI (TV)
Only get 2.0 sound, CEC Works fine

I think the TV is not passing 5.1 back out to the amp even though the AMP is connected on the ARC HDMI ( i Believe some TV’s only pass the internal tuner Audio back out). So I think my best option is scenarrio 1, but how do I get CEC working.
Very frustrating, new Bose system, everything worked fine on my old optical/HDMI converter and amp…

Have you looked at @NedtheNerd’s Audio Guide?

For scenario 2 you can try using the following audio output options:

  • Number of channels: 2.0
  • Enable passthrough: Enabled
  • Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: Enabled
  • Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding: Enabled (this option will appear when channels is set to 2.0)
  • DTS capable receiver: Enabled (if your TV can pass DTS audio to your Bose system)

This should give you 5.1 sound if your TV can pass AC3 audio to your Bose system.

For scenario 1, ensure HDMI-CEC is On/Alternate On for your Bose system and power up your Pi after both your TV and AVR is powered on. Try swapping the hdmi cables in scenario 2 to verify both your hdmi cables work with CEC. The plexhometheater.log file will show CEC details if you enable debug logging.
