This is maybe more general plex question, maybe openelec, dunno.
I do have cec capable receiver and cec not capable display. And when try to changle volume in plex it does change it in plex (or not at all in passtrough mode) instead of sending commands to the receiver.
I think this was called headless mode in pulse eight forums when it existed.

This has never worked this way in Rasplex when using passthrough, I too route through a receiver, but use the volumes buttons on the remote to control reciever volume, not the volume control in Rasplex.
Well it has worked in XBMC, when i was using it and years ago and when i when i was lucky, but from very very sparse info on the net i found, it seems that hdmi-cec or at least lib-cec expects one root that device, that is "TV" to be present.
But i found this thingy https://github.com/mkulke/cecanyway that should be somehow hacked for my setup. So i think most efficient way would be to buy new projector that support cec as hacking this into plex, at least for me, would be painful :)
Or maybe is there some little box, that i can put between projector and its powersource that would emulate hdmi TV device? Many older, but still good projectors do not support hdmi cec.
Just wanted to drag this thread up for anyone else who was trying to get their AV amplifier’s remote to work with raspbmc when your TV doesn’t support CEC.
I discovered that CECanyway is NOT needed to get this working. It works just fine with stock raspbmc with the right settings.
If you go into the CEC settings page (Settings > System > Input Devices > Peripherals > Raspberry Pi CEC Adapter) and disable everything apart from the top setting “Enabled”. Make sure that devices to turn on or off are set to “none”.
Save, reboot and your amplifier should be detected. Your amplifier’s remote should now be able to control raspbmc by CEC and your raspbmc volume control should operate your amplifier’s volume. I guess on the default settings CEC is waiting for a TV to be detected on CEC before it detects the amplifier.
NOTE - This is intended to work when your TV DOES NOT SUPPORT CEC.
Also - some amplifier remote controls need to be programmed to send remote keypresses to CEC. My onkyo one did anyway.
It actually works - i can now control plexElec with avr remote and also control my AVR from plexElec. Most likely it will work same in rasPlex.
