Server Version#:Ubunto 22.04.1 LTS
Player Version#: That’s the issue
I started running Ubuntu 18.04.06 LTS a few years ago. I would periodically check for updates from the Plex interface and when available, click to have it automatically installed. Everything worked fine.
Last year, Ubuntu prompted for an update to 20.04.5 LTS. I think that’s when Plexmediaserver went over to the snap-store.
After the Ubuntu upgrade, Plex wouldn’t run, not even starting; I had to uninstall and install the snap-store version - rescan the library files, redo the interface, etc.
Though a pain at the beginning, I thought moving the Plexmediaserver to the snap-store was a great idea - less application babysitting.
A couple of month ago, Ubuntu prompted for an update to 22.04.1 LTS. Everything was fine.
I started keeping track of different Plexmediaserver versions (the dates are when I checked): (I’m pretty sure it was the snap-store versions - nowhere to manually update)
-
1.29.0.6244 17 October
-
1.29.1.6316 23 October
-
1.29.2.6364 29 November
Yesterday, a simple Ubuntu update wouldn’t let Plex run
The error was to reclaim the server. I did. Then it said to manually update to 1.29.0.6244 (that was the 17 October version).
I did a sudo snap refresh and everything in the snap store was up to date.
I clicked on the link to download 1.29.0.6244. It downloaded but wouldn’t install - higher version installed
Used the snap-store to try and install Plexmediaserver. The snap-library still listed the latest at 1.29.0.6244.
Had to uninstall Plexmediaserver to get anywhere.
I downloaded the latest from your site (1.30…0.6442). Installed it. Had to then rescan the library files, redo the interface, etc.
This isn’t the snap-store version.
Now:
-
Why did this happen?
-
Will there be a time where it’ll try and reintroduce the snap-store versions.
-
If this happens again, what’s the correct steps to get this going the right way.
