I’m stuck in an endless loop of downloading, installing server, reboot and it’s never ending. I can’t access Plex through the Web. It’s always looking for the server. The server location has not changed. I got to tell you, I’m feeling a wee bit cranky at this point. WHAT do I have to do STEP by STEP to get working again?
The general step-by-step guide is here:
Which OS are you installing Plex Media Server on?
Windows. I’ve had Plex running on this machine for a year. Everything was just fine until I bought the PlexPass last night. Thought I’d be slick and enable the remote functionality so I could access my library from FL in a few weeks. I absolutely DON’T want to lose all of the input and clean up I had to do to my media entries.
And the step by step guide is fine but I only can get to steps 1 and 2.
Here’s the error message I get when I try to run the set up executable and a copy of the log file it references.
If I uninstall the program, will it remove whatever database exists that holds all the data entry work, all the posters and background images I’ve customized it with? I’m trying to avoid that nightmare.
And yes, it asked me to upgrade. That’s why.
So, if you are trying to install a new version of Plex Media Server, you will need to uninstall the existing one first.
As long as you do a standard windows uninstall, none of your database info will be lost
OK - I’ll give it a shot… I’d feel safer if I knew the name(s) of the db file to back up but I’ll do a standard windows uninstall and see what gives.

Three attempts to uninstall and I finally got it to uninstall fully. I rebooted and reinstalled the new 1.4.4.3495 Windows Media Server. I’m back to where I was yesterday. I’ll work on the Remote thing in a day or two.

1.5.0 is a the latest version.
Thanks. The updater gave me 1.4.4
Ill look for 1.5 before I attempt turning on remote access.
Make sure you’ve switch to the PlexPass Channel as 1.5 is PlexPass Only
Thanks everyone. It worked great and me and my kids watched PLEX while out of town without a hitch!
