Plex Media Server Won't Update

Hello,
I’m having issues updating my server to the latest version. I’ve been stuck on version 1.20.3.3437 and every time I try to install the latest update it says, something went wrong and then directs me to download the server again.

Server Version#: You are currently running version 1.20.3.3437

All you need to do is:

  • Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
  • deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows
    (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.
    Disable things like “registry optimizers”, like CCleaner et al.)
  • for safety, reboot Windows
  • download the installation exe of the newer version and install it

(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)

Thanks for the quick reply but will I need to set up plex again? Will my libraries, and remote access still have it’s settings?

I’m in the same boat. Did this work for you? Did you need to setup everything again afterwards?

Hey, I haven’t tried this because I’m too afraid of having to start everything over.

I am an alpha tester for Plex. I am installing several server updates per month – always in the above manner. I’ve never lost my plex data once.

Never used Revo but I do have CC Cleaner installed which I will shut down. I will actually uninstall CC cleaner and reinstall it after the Plex Media Server is updated.

Will I have to set up my Remote Access again or will that remain intact after the installation?

Everything will be as before.
(As long as you don’t change other things as well, like changing the network connection/adapter of the server machine etc.)

So I followed the steps and everything worked. The only thing I did differently was instead of closing CC Cleaner I uninstalled it because I have to update CC Cleaner anyways.

Hi… i have problems with my server.

it tells me that an update is ther. when i try to press update media server it stop a 8 %. and say somthing whent wronge.

i i try to download a version on plex main page it stop. the only way i can get the new version is on my mac.

why cant i update the server as i use to in plex app?
