Brand New Synology, Stuck on "Looking for Servers"

Server Version#: Just downloaded from https://www.plex.tv/en-ca/media-server-downloads/

Hi,

Several threads on this topic but can’t seem to fix my issue.

I have a brand new Synology DS1517+. (New to NAS’s so bear with me please).

I installed plex server on the synology from the package centre, then clicked the icon and logged into my account.

In the top left it says “Looking for servers”.

From other threads I read download plex server and install manually. So I uninstalled, deleted the plex folder, and the plex user, and reinstalled.

Same issue “looking for servers”

From other threads it I’ve read “add permissions to the plex user”…what permissions do I need to add?

Anything else I am missing?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi thanks for the quick reply. I had already done Q3, Q5 and DSM instructions and none of those worked.

Then I realized I was using my registered hostname instead of my internal ip address directly. (this is what happened when I clicked the Plex Media server Button within synology).

Once I used my IP address instead, it started the server setup.

SSH is disabled in my NAS and I would prefer not to enable it…does it need to be enabled to access media from outside my LAN?

Thanks,
Robin

thanks. When is it “Necessary” ?
