Step 2.: If my laptop and synology are NOT on the same subnet, is there a different step to take ?
Steps 8/9: what am I supposed to “see” here?
I’m at the end of my rope. I have a brand new Synology NAS. Plex installed PERFECTLY, not a single issue until I changed the Syno over to a different network in my house. I’ve been researching this for hours today and nothing has worked. This post of yours is the most promising I have found so far.
I can connect to the Syno just fine and I can connect to port 32400 just fine as well but I just keep getting the “Looking for servers” in the upper left corner. I do not see the setup/claim process.
If I didn’t know any better, I would swear that the mother ship is somehow not allowing my server to “register again”.
I’ve used ssh to the Syno and ping to plex.tv works.
Thanks for the reply. I was just about to post that I got it fixed.
About an hour ago I went ahead and setup a small switch on the other network so I would be “local” to the NAS. I followed the steps and this time it worked. So, my head will not explode today.
Thanks again and to reiterate for the benefit of others, being on the same subnet is critical (for whatever reason).
Remote access was going to be the next thing to tackle. I have a pfsense firewall and I was hoping that simple port forwarding would be enough. On the other hand, I am concerned about unauthorized access so I was also considering only allowing remote access over an OpenVPN tunnel.
I’m sure it’s obvious that I’m new to Plex. I’m still not sure I have a grasp as to how the connections work. For instance, when using the remote Android app, once setup, am I streaming directly from my home network or is there another hop through the Plex mother ship?
