I don’t think I’ve seen this. I did search, promise!
Wouldn’t it be great if whilst during a Preroll the Plex client is buffering the main title bring requested? Would make the Preroll have an extra function and would reduce the ‘buffering’ which so greatly annoys people
I mount a cloud drive which hosts my media. The Preroll video is kept locally so this plays immediately, when the actual movie starts it then has to buffer/transcode from the cloud drive which could ideally be done while the local Preroll is playing creating a seamless experience.
Also as suggested by @imjgott the preroll & movie could be buffering during the cinematic trailers (if enabled)
Same thoughts here! Often my files take about 3-5 seconds to buffer. If the Plex Pre-roll was downloaded to each client and used locally, that pre-roll can then be used on each device locally while the main title is buffered
I know I can just throw my vote in and these kind of replies are sometimes tedious but I would REALLY love it if this became a reality. The only reason I don’t use pre roll videos is because feels like a waste of time. If what you intended to watch buffered while the pre roll, well… rolled, it would change all of the everythings.
Agreed. I started using a preroll but its incredibly disruptive for it to finish and then wait to make more transcode/buffer decisions. Takes my 3 second preroll to nearly 10 seconds for a lot of players which is cludgy
Basically the pre roll and movie should be loading while watching a cinematic movie trailer if you have the selected. Background loading needs to be done just how the video games do it. I’m a coder but I understand that much.
I’ll chime in to comment that I would LOVE this as well. Right now I’m using prerolls because they are fun for me but this would make them actually useful.
Oh GOD! I would love this so much. Since I have switched to Gsuite the buffering sometimes drive me nuts Espacially for 4k movies. But when it can load/buffer during the preroll it would be amazing and so seemlessly.
At least please integrate a % to the buffer wheel like netflix has it. So the waitingtime is not uncertain.
This is a brilliant option.
I have local servers with a cloud storage. Each server has pre-rolls locally so they would play quickly while the main media loads.
I would love for this to be a feature! At the moment pre-roll just seems a bit more like a hindrance than a feature.
Full transparency I am not a developer so don’t know if this is possible, but if it was me I would have the pre-roll always buffered in the cache ready to play when the user hits play. It can then start up instantly while the actual content is buffering. I know storage is limited but the pre-roll I would be using (as are many others) is sub 1MB so it wouldn’t negatively affect webpage loading time that much.
Plex Pre-rolls are rather useless. Nice if you want that little extra bit of advertising-ish or a cool intro… But loading a pre-roll video of 5 seconds, just to then wait for it to finish AND THEN load the actual video we’re here for is a bit of a waste…
Should be Load Pre-Roll > Upon pre roll play state load actual video > Continue video when Pre roll completes.
Easy as pie and should actually even make a pre-roll a useful addition!
