Buffering debug procedure?

All of a sudden I am getting buffering every 60-seconds or so on movies that used to play just fine. What is the best practice for figuring out what’s going on?

I am running Plex server on my desktop PC (Version 1.4.4.3495) with a hard-wire ethernet connection to a Samsung TV running Plex (latest). Download speed from my PC is about 35 mbps and upload speed is about 5 mbps so that tells me that I can send and receive data fast enough. I have plenty of space on my SSD drive which holds the video files.

Please help.

I am seeing this buffering specifically on Samsung App (2010-2015)…all others (Xbox, Roku, Chromecast) are all working fine.

Not sure what this means “I am seeing this buffering specifically on Samsung App” Is it a problem with the Samsung app or something else? I’ve been a Plex user for several years and this has not been an issue.

Can someone please answer the question about the best procedure for checking the buffering issue?

Best procedure? I don’t know that.

However,

  1. I would check to see if your media is transcoding presently for some reason - Plex Web app activity monitor will show.
  2. I would make sure to disable any server side options that could be the cause.
Disable secure connections, disable DLNA server, disable Ipv6 support.
  3. I would turn off the TV, and unplug it for a minute then plug it back in.

Thanks astrofisher, it was a transcoding error.

This is a known issue ever since 1.4.2
Plex ignored it but that became difficult since it started happening across most platforms.

The general word now is “It’s an issue in the Base Code”

Suggested fix is roll back to 1.3.3 or something earlier than 1.4.x

Where can I find the 1.3.3 version? The Downloads page only shows the latest version. I am running Version 1.5.4.3596 now.

It’s only a problem for my Samsung Plex app. I can view the movies well on an iPad streaming from my PC server.

i would use 1.3.4.x if i remember right 1.3.3.x had issues that were fixed in 1.3.4.x

So where do you find it, well you can find it on Windows in the %appdata% in the local area under Plex Media Server / updates.

Or you can download here; https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7m81QdV8IraVXZHczJ4aEFzUUU?usp=sharing

I would use 1.3.4.x as there was a bug if i remember right in 1.3.3.x

Okay, now I am stumped. Other threads say just to use the Windows Add/Remove function to uninstall PMS, but, I don’t see it there, I just see PMP.! Is PMS under another name?

I was successful in rolling back to 1.3.xxx!!!

The problem is that it didn’t solve my problem. The good news is that I’ve isolated the buffering problem to only when the closed captions are on. I am going to start a new thread on that problem. Thanks, everyone for your help
