I have a strange issue where the Nividia Shield Pro buffers and locks up. Also when ffwd a program Plex crashes. Last night I ripped the network apart trying to solve the issue thinking it a network issue, the error message about too slow network connection to server came up at times. It wasn’t my network. I then found that when I accessed the server with my iPad app or web page streaming the problem wasn’t there and it also went away on the Nvidia player. I had the same thing again today and simply opening the Plex app on my iPad made the issue go away.

My configuration is Plex server running on a Mac Mini M2 Pro with internal drive for database and a Synology NAS storing data, NAS and Mac are on a 10Gb switch, a 10Gb link to a 24 port switch, the Nvidia shield connects to the 24 port switch via local 8 port switches and are hard wired. (All networking is ubiquiti)

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I’m having a similar issue with a similar setup.

I’m running an m1 Mac mini as a server with library on external SSD and using a gbe connection to UniFi dream machine pro.

Playback on devices on the network seems to vary a bit, some files seem to play fine yet others buffer, halt and get audio sync issues.

I first suspected the client (Fetch TV) but was able to replicate the issue on a web browser on another Mac.

I’m a total noob with plex and feeling out of my depth and pretty frustrated after dropping a decent chunk of coin on the setup.

Appreciate people’s help

I solved my problem. It turns out that, not only can’t Apple do networking, but also they struggle with updates that leaves your settings alone. One of the last couple of updates turned my wifi back on. In spite of the 10Gb Ethernet connection MacOS decided to use the very poor wifi signal where my Mac Mini is located. The service order makes no difference to the networking Apple always seems to use wifi where it can.

So when Plex gave me the message that my server can’t keep up from time to time or just crashed out it was due to a loss of the wifi network trying to connect to the NAS where my stored files are located.

As soon as I turned my wifi off again all was well. I’ve now turned auto update on my Mac mini off so that I know when updates are done manually and I can check networking.
