Hello I have an AppleTV (the newest one) at my condo in Aruba, and I can’t reliably stream movies hosted on my Plex server back home. I just get constant buffering. However, if I play the Plex-hosted movies (offered by the Plex company themselves) then everything plays fine. I’ve also connected to my friend’s Plex server, and the movies he hosts buffer, too. I have no issues streaming Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. Just movies that I personally host on my Plex server. Download speed is around 150Mbps, ping is a very low 10-15ms. I’ve tried turning off/on transcoding, compression, I’m really out of ideas. Anybody?
Have you tried to adjust the remote quality settings on the Apple TV?
The default is in many cases set too low
I don’t have an Apple TV so I’m not sure what it looks like for you, but this is from my HTPC
Yep, tried that. No luck unfortunately
It could be a latency issue from your home network. Plex has distributed servers so it will pick the one closes to you. You can run a basic ping test to your home server to see what you get. If that doesn’t reveal anything, you can try a trace route which may reveal an issue along the path.
