Buffering until forced Transcode? LG WebOS Client

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437 (on MacOS X Catalina)
Player Version#: 5.2.1 LG WebOS
Platform Version#: 5.1.0

I have an issue where playing a 4K movie on our LG TV 55UN7300PUF will buffer indefinitely, unless I force it to convert to a lower bit rate, and then I can change it back to direct playing the original source media.

We have a RaspPi 4 Plex server which works well for most things, including 4K, so long as there’s no transcoding needed (as expected). We have some 4K movie files that have 7.1 DTS which our system doesn’t support, so I have to disable DTS and force it to transcode just the audio down to AAC 5.1. This almost works, but the Pi can’t keep up and it re-buffers every few minutes.

To address this, I setup a new Plex Server on an old Mac Mini. This works great, but only with the above mentioned workaround. When I start a 4K movie that needs the audio transcoded, (the video is fine to direct play), it sits in a “buffering” state forever. While it’s there I can select a lower quality. It then transcodes the video as well at the lower bitrate. As soon as that starts to play I can set the video quality back to the original, and it works fine after that without having to transcode the video (just audio).

Any ideas? Advice appreciated.

I don’t have this issue on the Windows Plex Player which is not only a different platform, but doesn’t need the audio transcoded so it’s direct playing both streams.
