I am running the current version of Linux Mint on a fresh install, as well as a fresh install of the latest Plex Media Server. Media is on a local disk. All playback is over my local wireless network inside my home, while the server itself is wired via ethernet. I am using an Apple TV 4K as my playback device, although the issue happens on an iPad as well. I have a 120MB internet connection, so network speed shouldn’t be an issue. Streaming from services such as Netflix, etc. work fine. I don’t think the issue is the amount of bandwidth getting to the Apple TV. There are no large files downloading or any other streaming media going on at the same time.
Looking at the logs, the files (1080p/720p MKV or MP4) are attempting to direct play. The CPU% is at or near zero. Sometimes when you start a video you just get a spinning circle and it never loads. Or it will begin playing and start to buffer after just a few minutes of playback. Sometimes it will muddle through to the end with a few stops to buffer, or it will just time out and never continue. I see in the logs, a lot of “Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected… - connection reset by peer”, or sometimes it will have “broken pipe” instead.
I am unable to figure out why the connection keeps dropping. I have attached some logs. One from the server, and another from the Apple TV itself (albeit from a few days before). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Another detail that I forgot to add: I have tried Infuse as my media player using plex as the media server back end. That did not seem to make a difference.
Not sure if @ChuckPa has had a chance to look at the logs, but I had an issue with buffering and the EasyAudioEncoder codec. Maybe it’s the audio? I’m a novice at reading through the logs, but nothing stands out to me.
