[Bug] Adding Image Tag where as second Tag that starts like the new one already exists

Latest server, latest Plex Web (app.plex.tv):

I’m using manual tags for photos. Consider a tag that already exists like that one:

Müller-Maier, Pat

Now I want to add a second tag, like that one:

Müller-Maier, Rose

It’s not possible. After adding Müller-Maier from the new tag it sets that fragment as a new tag when reaching the ‘,’ - during typing. I even tried Copy&Paste. That didn’t work neither.

I’m experiencing this behaviour since I started tagging photos. But it’s getting annoying as soon you have already tagged a lot of photos. There’s always a tag that starts like an existing one.

Thanks for listening.

Plex doesn’t allow comas in a tag. Not sure how you managed to get Müller-Maier, Pat in there.

I just entered them. I do have hundreth of tags (usually names) entered manually. If commas are not allowed, Why can I enter them?

Where can I read about allowed characters in tags?

It took me months to tag all our photos. And all is wrong now?

Luckily it took me 1 minute to take a backup of the Plex SQLite DB and change the tags table to comma-less values.

Puh.

“comas” are not technically illegal, but when using the Web interface, if you press the coma key, that stops the entry of text. I have no idea how you managed to include comas unless you did it directly in the database.

No, definetely manually. Tried with the latest Web on my server. Could enter “ABC, DEF” in the tag entryfield for a photo. Now close that photo and reopen it. Now try to enter “ABC, GHI”. This won’t work.

The first tag for a photo can have a comma in the entryfield. Please refuse that because it leads to problems at a later time.

Huh. I wonder if the coma behavior is browser/OS dependent. I can’t enter a coma in Chrome on Windows.

Chrome on Android here. Plex Web 4.30.2 on my local Linux server 1.19.4.2935.

As another test I took Plex Web 4.37.2 from app.plex.tv. Here it worked too with my Chrome Browser.

Later, when at home, I will check that with a PC.

EDIT: Confirmed, Chrome on my PC refuses to add a comma to a tag. The Chrome browser on my Android tablet allows to add a comma. Both Chrome browsers are up-to-date. As I usually do this kind of stuff when I’m bored in a hotel room I was using Chrome on my tablet when adding tags to photos.

I was finally able to reproduce the issue. I’ve brought it up with the team. We’ll see what happens. I’m told comas should be allowed.
