[BUG] Albums being duplicated

Hi folks,
My Music library is splitting tracks from a single album across multiple albums.

I don’t understand what could be going wrong - can anyone help please?

  • I followed this excellent guide on how to get a library to use local metadata:
  • My files have all the right metadata:

  • They’re in Plex’s recommended folder structure:

  • Here are my settings:

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764

Most often this can be caused by:

  • general absence of the ‘Album Artist’ meta tag
  • ‘Album Artist’ metatag is not uniformly filled with the same artist name for one album
  • absence of ‘track number’ meta tags
  • ‘Album Title’ must contain the exact same content in all tracks of one particular album. The ‘disc number’ does not belong into the track title, there is a separate metatag for that.

Your music library is still using the old scanner and metadata agent which is no longer updated.
As long as your embedded metadata are filled correctly, there should be no need to switch away from the new agent and scanner ‘Plex Music’.

Example for embedded metadata and file names, which does work.

Sadly the album artist and track numbers are already set and the issue occurs nonetheless.

If i switch to the Plex Music scanner it groups the albums correctly, but then populates the album artwork with some random artist and doesn’t respect the local artwork setting.

Any idea how to resolve that? Is that a known bug?

That’s easier to solve:

  1. verify that the folder (and the folder levels above it!) don’t have hidden cover art files in them How do I remove an incorrect tv show poster - #3 by OttoKerner
  2. place a good-quality version of the cover art into the folder and name it cover.jpg

Thanks so much for the help!
