[BUG] Android Auto - Showing "Artist Background" instead of album art

Expected behavior: car display will show album art when playing a song
Actual behavior: car display shows “Artist Background” from artist info in Plex

This does not happen for all artists. But it happens very frequently, and it only happens in Android Auto. I can play the same song in the regular mobile app or any other client, and it displays the correct album art.

I have a 2018 Mazda3 with dealer installed Android Auto upgrade and a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Any help is appreciated.

Exact same thing happens to me!!! This needs to default to showing the Album Artwork, that would be the preferred view not the artist background.

Plex Devs, can you please correct along with many other AA buggy issues? Its only gotten worse over the last 6 months.

Yup, I’ve got this too. Started a few months ago; it used to show the album art while playing but now it just shows the artist background. Pretty annoying!

I think this particular issue is an Android 11 beta issue. Might be something we need to change though…

Hi,
sorry, but this bug is old and not an Android 11 problem.
If the album has a “CD cover picture” (and there is NO “Band Poster” in the server database) the car display is ok (the car display shows the album cover).
As soon as there is a “Band Poster” it will be displayed instead of the “CD cover(s)”.
But on the Android device “inside the Android Auto App” the cover display is allways ok.)

I can assure that the issue exists on Android 9 too … and it’s not the only one

Right you are, I’m thinking of something unrelated!.

This is being investigated anyway and I’ve raised the concerns about Android Auto flakiness.
