[BUG] Audio hiccups on plex preview on Roku Ultra after new OS update

I updated my 2019 Roku Ultra to the new OS today (9.4.0) and while all my other apps seem to be able to play content just find (including 4K HDR content in Netflix), the Plex app has audio hiccups where the audio disappears for a half second every 10-15 seconds. It appears to do this regardless of the content resolution or file format. I have reproduced the issue with both 4k and 1080p content.

I still have this issue. I think it happens more often with higher bitrate titles. Posting in reddit, others have the issue as well.

We are discussing this exact issue on two different topics, with little to no help from the developers at this point:

The only workaround I found is to set my Roku audio settings to stereo-only, forcing every Plex stream to convert the audio, which gets rid of the stutters. Not ideal since I’m loosing Surround sound, but at least I can use it. Hope to see a fix soon.

So is this a Plex on Roku or a bug in the new Roku update If you set the Roku in Plex to Stream or if you convert the audio to specific format aac 5.1 for example does it make a difference?

This bug is specific to Plex on roku. No other roku apps have the issue but it started in Plex after the latest roku OS update. I have not yet tried different audio transcoding options.

I put my Roku into stereo audio and the issue appears to have resolved itself, so I no longer can direct stream movies, I have to watch them with stereo audio.

yeah I converted my audio to aac stereo and the issue went away Has plex acknowledged anything about this

Is there a better way to get attention on this other than posting here and on reddit?

I have a tcl roku tv with the 9.4 update doing the same kind of things, hdmi de-sync.

It happens to my shields, without plex even running, so plex does not seem to be the problem.

Same issue on a Streaming Stick plus with version 9.4.0 build 4190-50.

It’d be nice if we can collapse the 3 threads into an “official” bug thread. Is that possible?

I’m crossposting a bit in the meantime. I’ve put test files and mediainfo details in those other threads as references.

The problem, I believe, is more Roku than because the audio delay problem exists on the Roku Media Player channel as well (local file playback and DLNA). I reported to Roku Support and they took a bunch of details so it might help submitting a ticket over to them directly for more attention.

Seeing the same here (Roku Streaming Stick+). Haven’t tried forcing audio to stereo as a workaround, but if you force a transcode by dropping the video quality in a specific video’s settings, this also fixes the audio hiccup issue.

I have seen that work (it’s doing that on my other Roku setup since it’s only stereo output anyways), but by turning off Direct Play and leaving Direct Stream enabled in Plex app on Roku, it plays files with original quality for audio and video without having to transcode.

I ended up just purchasing an Nvidia shield so I could use my home theater again.
