BUG?: Correct Season Posters for TV Shows do not get imported correctly using XBMCnfoTVImporter

The XBMCnfoTVImporter agent worked fine up to v1.2.7 but since v1.3.x, including v1.3.1 that just came out, the correct Season Posters do not get imported.

I’ve flipped back and forth between v1.2.7 and v1.3.1 testing, including fresh installs and fresh libraries and get the same results. Imports of Season Posters work using v1.2.7 but fail under v1.3.x. No other changes are being made outside of the version of Plex Server I’m using which I am running on Linux.

Fair enough and I have actually reported the issue to the developer who hasn’t found out why starting in v1.3.0 it’s breaking. I’m reporting it here mainly because from the v1.3.0 change log, it sounds like there were changes / fixes related to agents / scanners that might have un-intentionally changed / broken something else in relations to agents / scanners that were working prior to v1.3.0 or that PLEX has changed the API calls or what not that agents use and haven’t released supporting documentation for said changes.

I’ve been using this agent for awhile without issue and to have it break with a new release assuming no api changes seems to point to a new bug being introduced with a set of “fixes” to the subsystem it uses. At least that’s my opinion / point of view.

As a FYI, there are reports of other agents breaking since v1.3.x came out so this might be something you guys should look into a bit maybe?

+1. I use Media Center Master’s agent with locally stored metadata, poster.jpg and folder.jpg. Completely stable environment; the only vectors for change are Windows updates (Server 2008 R2) and PMS.

Folder.jpg, stored in the season subfolder, isn’t used at all anymore since 1.3.0; all seasons use the show-level poster. Browsing to the locally stored folder.jpg aqnd selecting it changes the season display, but this doesn’t survive a show- or library-level refresh. Not that I’d want to do this for 233 TV shows, but I thought I’d test it.

I don’t want to permanently roll back to a pre-1.3.0 PMS version since this would lock me out of future performance improvements and fixes. I also like the ability to troubleshoot metadata issues and to correct spelling mistakes directly inside the movie or show’s folder, rather than do PMS buttonology.

Bottom line for me is that the metadata hasn’t changed, but the manner in which PMS uses it did. So, what’s the fix?

@twende Don’t think there is a fix on the agent side or at least not an obvious one. I’ve been working with the XBMCnfoTVImporter developer with testing and debugging and everything looks like it being done based on the framework documentation for agents that Plex provides but still no joy with the v1.3.x PMS versions.

@slowmoe I’m on the MCM forum asking similar questions. I suppose I’ll stand up a test box again, with a smaller sample of movies and shows (had one running for a while to check PMS changes, but I grew complacent). I’d be pretty unhappy if NFO imports become a dead feature; I tinkered for MONTHS to ensure that I understood Plex’s capabilities and limitations vis a vis metadata before going live with what I have.

This bug has finally been fixed in the latest Plex Pass version (v1.4.2.3400) noted as:

  • (Metadata) Issues obtaining artwork from third party agents. (#6326)

in the change log.
