[BUG] Die Hard (1988) keeps freezing on my Samsung tv 2016 UN55KU6290 on 5.6.1 server 1.21.1

Hi everyone,

As you probably know already, it’s xmas and therefore, Die Hard is on tv because don’t let anyone tell you that it’s not a xmas movie.

anyway, I’ve noticed that some movie files get stuck in specific parts of the movie. I’ve noticed the same thing with my indiana jones. I can’t tell you how frustrating that is.

I’ve done a bit of “chewing” on the issue by enabling extra logging on the the client and on the server.

I’m running raspberry pi 4 with pretty much everything up to date.
I migrated from plexmediaserver 1.18 to 1.21.1
I don’t get the same issue on my amazon fire stick so I figure it must be related to the application running on the tv.

Since it happened around the beginning of the movie, I deleted my logs manually and then made it run the movie until it stalled and then quickly downloaded the log files.

(File removed)

I ran an ffprobe on the file.
ffprobe diehard.txt (20.8 KB)

For the love of santa, please someone help me watch Die Hard 1988 on this rainy 25th of December.

According to your Plex Media Server, the client disconnected and therefore the streaming has been stopped. This seems to go along some information about some change on the network(?).
Not sure what exactly caused this or how to fix it… maybe this is giving you some hint?!

Unrelated:
it appears your server has a DNS issue and fails to connect to plex.tv

the interesting thing is that it will stop every time at the exact same part of the movie.

so clearly my client is disconnecting but something’s going on on the client and it seems related to the data.

I have a similar issue on LG 49UH770V-ZA + webOS 3.3.0, client 4.30.2.

I’m wondering why the client is reporting “X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution => 1920x1080” for a UHD TV though.

In my case the video source is 4k, so I’m guessing the server sees the X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution and decides transcoding is the way to go?

" “X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution => 1920x1080”"
I was wondering that too but since mostof my movies are in 1080p… i figured i’d pick that battle a different day

Seems that is not a problem since my issues went away when I converted the audio stream into a compatible one and I can now watch the 4k source without buffering.
