Yet another 8.12 problem. I have two libraries of the type “Other Videos”. Hubs from the 2nd Other Videos library simply will not appear on the home screen. Recently Added videos are not merged with the first library and will also not appear as a separate hub on the home screen. I have not found any way to get hubs from the 2nd Other Videos library to appear on the home screen.
Looks like it is busted in other ways as well. For example, I have two TV shows libraries and the “Continue Watching” shows only appear from one of them. Doesn’t matter what I do, the continue watching shows do not appear for the other tv library. Works fine in the Windows and Web clients. Worked fine in Plex For Android 8.11.
I could go on but I think you get my drift. Home page has been broken in a very significant way.
Can’t speak to v8.12.3, but the previous version (8.12.2) had the same problems.
The best I could do to get “On Deck” and “Continue Watching” to show items from all libraries was to reset customization of the home page, and leave it at the “Auto Manage” setting. This, of course, gave me multiple rows of “Recently Added” Any attempt at manually managing the hubs on the home page to combine them, resulted in the On Deck and Continue Watching showing items from only one library, and the other hubs disappearing altogether…
The previous version was removed because of bugs, maybe this one should be removed too.
Android TV still merge recently added, but on mobile I also got multiple rows… one for each library. What’s the latest version that works so I can roll back?
Yes, it is manual management for the home screen that I’m talking about as well. Previously, my home screen was:
Continue Watching (merged for my 2 tv show libraries plus my 2 other video libraries)
On Deck (merged for my 2 tv show libraries)
Recently Added TV (merged for my 2 tv show libraries)
Recently Added Videos (merged for my 2 other video libraries)
Recently Play Episodes (from my first tv library)
Recently Play Episodes (from my second tv library)
This was working consistently and correctly on all my clients (Android, Plex For Windows, PMP, and Web). But Android now broke in 8.12.x.
I also had the Android duplicate hub problem from auto management that carried over to manual management. But that was just a small annoyance – I just deleted the extra ones. But now, there is no way to get the desired content on the home screen. What’s the point of the home screen if On Deck and Continue Watching isn’t working?
Plex, like I said when I was talking about Live TV/DVR, there is always something major broken.
8.11 is the version I’m still using on my FireStick. I think it still has the home screen hub duplicates if you use automatic home screen. If you customize yourself, it all behaves as it should and you can remove the duplicates.
8.11 also didn’t have all the playback problems that I had with 8.12 versions - although, fingers crossed, those may be resolved in 8.12.3.
Could not get Live TV/DVR to work properly in 8.11 though – had problems watching a recording in progress. Don’t know if that’s fixed in 8.12.3 as I’ve given up on that and gone back to NextPVR.
I’m really at the point of looking for an off ramp from the plex broken highway.
All roads leading off this thoroughfare are closed - in that you REALLY have to hate this road to ride on ANY of the alternate routes… and be willing to serve yourself up with a heaping helping of compromise… unfortunately.
Ya, I know. It’s a big decision and commitment. But the Android app has been constantly riddled with very significant bugs for almost 2 years and there doesn’t seem to anything like a professional release management process in place.
I’m definitely reading a lot about Jellyfin at the moment and will try it out soon. I’m very picky/demanding but I also have limited use cases to satisfy. I already have OTA DVR handled nicely with NextPVR (for over 2 years now after I gave up on Plex). My server is a capable windows desktop and my clients are Windows and a bunch of Android devices (phone, tablet, cheapo TV box and FireStick). Good WiFi and/or powerline adapters in the house and don’t have the need for remote usage very often (at least, for now).
So obviously, I’m very interested in the quality and reliability of the Jellyfin Android client. It’s hard to imagine that it would be worse than Plex – but, I know, things can always be worse than they are.
Wow, I just installed the Jellyfin server and then the Fire TV client. I’m completely confused/stunned. It all just worked out of the box. Passthrough DD/AC3 to my receiver no problem I expect the same with DTS and EAC3 once I add a library that has those. For the FireTV client, the bar had been set really really low by Plex. So it doesn’t take much to blow me away.
No separate Windows client for Jellyfin. Just Web which means stereo sound. But they have plugin for Kodi and which means I should get 5.1 audio on my windows machine too. Will have to experiment with that since I’ve never used Kodi before.
But, out of the box, it’s very encouraging. Definitely worth investing a little more time to do a proper test/evaluation. I will miss the new plex Mark Ads for skip feature. It’s nice but not nearly enough to offset all the aggravation and wasted time that plex brings me.
Jellyfin is obviously not for everyone but could be a real plex alternative for a lot of users.
Having exactly the same issues with the Android TV version. Also since version 8.12… Also reverted back to version 8.11 and everything seems fine again.
Has anyone had an acknowledgement from Plex that there is an issue and that they are looking to resolve it, or do we just sit hands together and pray? I do find the support Plex offers in the forums specifically, quite poor compared to other products. And by other products, I mean Emby specifically. Emby’s support and user interaction is exceptional. They almost always follow up on issues that are raised and confirmed by a number of users and at least acknowledge the issue so the users know they are aware and potentially working on fixing it.
