This is a bug in the new Plex Downloads feature that replaces Sync that causes it to redownload already completed items. Downloads worked correctly when downloading from my “Movies” library, but whenever I try to download an item from my “Documentary TV Shows” library, it will always redownload the same items again, over and over again.
Here’s a typical example:
Download an episode of “Frontline” from my “Documentary TV Shows” library.
Download completes successfully.
Download a different episode of Frontline.
Plex begins downloading that episode, and redownloads the previous episode as well.
IF both downloads complete (and sometimes it just never finishes), then as soon as I reopen Plex, it will re-download the episodes yet again.
Repeats over and over until I finally delete the items.
Basically, it is impossible to download anything from that library. I have tried this over and over again.
The problem is getting worse. It now redownloads every item from my Documentary TV Shows library every time I reopen Plex.
I have attached the log from my Android phone. I downloaded an item from my library. I closed Plex and as soon as I reopened it, it immediately started redownloading the episode.
I’m seeing this as well on a Macbook Air, been progressively getting to the point where I can use 40-50-60GB for every successful 1GB download. Which is bloody inconvenient when bandwith is limited.
To make it worse latest versions seems to use background downloads so it keeps running even after quitting Plex, uninstalling and reboot is the only thing that seems to work. It would be an understatement to call this unusable.
I’ve provided several sets of logs on this in another thread. They can’t figure it out. It seems like there’s a comparison failing that makes Plex think it hasn’t downloaded the original item. Very frustrating.
