Plex for IOS randomly gets stuck re-downloading a file over and over again

I’ve been downloading quite a lot of content to my wife’s ipad as she is staying in hospital with our ~2 year old. Unfortunately the downloads frequently get stuck. When looking at the server status, it seems like sometimes the same file is downloaded over and over again. Sometimes a few times, sometimes forever. I’ve no idea what is causing this; the only reliable way to un-stick the repeated downloads is to kill the Plex Player app and restart it. The downloaded content seems to remain downloaded each time I have to do this, but trying to download a lot of content is an exercise in futility.
