[Bug] Inconsistent subtitle behavior

Check in your settings the overwrite subtitle setting and try on/off.

Maybe related bug:
Also, if u set aspect ratio of a 720p file to orginal on a 1080p or higher tv (now u get big black borders correctly) and enable subtitles, they are out of screen.

I appreciate the suggestion but the ā€œSettings>Subtitles>Override included subtitles stylingā€ option does not affect this issue. The results are the same with this setting on or off. I believe this setting is for text based subtitles and the problem we are having is with VOBSUB which is image based.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean here or what settings you are referring to.

Another data point:

I have an old Sony Bravia TV (XBR-49X700D) that runs Android TV and it is running PLEX version 8.23.0.27681 and it does not have the subtitle problem.

So the problem showed up (for me) after that version.

I suppose I could just run this version on my Shields and turn off auto updates.

Edit: I decided to try using old versions starting at 8.31.2 and working my way backwards.

None of the 8.31 versions worked.

8.30.2 is working as far as the subtitle issue goes.

So if anyone at Plex is working on this issue, they can start with what changed between 8.30.2 and 8.31.0.

I’d just like to chime in and say I’m having this same issue and have been for some time. I assume no one is aware of a fix being in the works?

I am unaware of any fix. I reverted to an older version that doesn’t have the subtitle problem and have more or less abandoned hope that it would be addressed in current versions.

Just now noticing this issue as well. I guess I’ll try reverting to the version mentioned above for a while, at least until I’m done watching this one series. Thanks to everyone for the troubleshooting and identifying where/when the problem started.
