Hello, this is my report of the issues found in the Plex for Android 6.13.0.3366-beta client for nVidiaShield. 2017.
To avoid open a various treads i decided do it in this way. IF someone have some of the issues that i found just mention the NUMBER. Thank you.
IMDB is lost. Rotten tomatos start showing by itself without any reason. No option to change that in the client. My windows 10 Plex server have the set-up untouched and it shows in my computer the IMDB info correctly.
Artifacts in the borders of the subtitles and some images (like water, or distortion). It happends with the new and the old player.
Image quality in 4K UHD -HDR for some reason is not showing properly the complete gamma of the HDR feature, it looks darker. I test and recalibrate my TV just for test but is not the TV.
The app is crashing more that ever. I send the logs from the Shield via feedback using my email address, please check.
f you’re watching a movie and stop the movie to see another content. The app doesn’t refresh adn show in the main page the “Continue watching” movie. You need to close the app and reopen to can see what movie/show you leave in progress.
If you finish to watch a movie, it leaves a progress bar down the poster (like is it unfinished).
If your mark how unwatched any movie, (doesn’t matter where you stop the movie) the app DON’T refresh the info and it still like watched. You need to close the app, an reopen to get the correct info and see the triangle in the upper right corner.
Playing a movie from any playlist cause the app crash if you stop the movie, or if you try to change sub or audio track in any moment. The movie plays “over” tha playlist, it keeps the playlist background and don’t show (lost), the movie info, in my case aditional trailers or featurettes.
Subtitles have a lot of problems with the new player. The new player skip subs, or delay the subs at some point. This NOT happend with the old player.
Aditional comment to the developers.
Seems to me, the Android APP needs more care. I found that the Apple TV, Roku, etc. have an interface very good worked. At this time even the cast and crew is not showing in the client app.
To add to this list:
Playback OTA recording (1080i mpeg2). Not always, but often after skipping commercials, playback is very jerky. Like the framerate is wrong. Need to stop playback and start it again to get it working properly.

Known and reported issue by a couple Ninjas.

1080p or 4K HDR? Can you provide a title name I can test. I may have the title.

What did you set your HDMI display mode to in the global settings of the Shield?

I’ve encountered this myself. Will report to devs.

I will attempt to reproduce this
Subtitles have a lot of problems with the new player. The new player skip subs, or delay the subs at some point. This NOT happend with the old player.
1080p or 4K HDR? Can you provide a title name I can test. I may have the title. Embedded Image based or sidecar text based subs?
@Achilles The problems quoted happends with 4K, 1080p, 720p, SD.
For tech issues:
I do the report after test around 40 different movies VC1, mp4, AVC, avi, etc.
HDR only affect at 4K, content of course. I have to test more than 130 movies in 4K.
All subtitles are embedded into mkv container. All my collection is on MKV container.
For the interface:
I send that problems of the interface like month and a half ago via feedback down my email address from the Shield
Like achilles I can also reproduce many of these including #8 (playlist).
Can you give us a bit more info on #9? Do you by any chance have any movies with external SRT subs? Do you get issues with them as well or only the embedded subs?

I’m using the last beta from Nvidia.
I have access to thousands of remuxes of all types, so if you can give an example of a title, I can try to reproduce.

Carlo
Thank you.
The thing is that I use embedded subtitles two years ago without issues.
At this time the problem is with the new player, no the old one. I reported because it is having problems skipping parts.
happends with pgs, srt, ssa, and vob

Thank you, let me write down a list and I reply tomorrow with it.
I’m going to check the movies tonight again, because I reset the shield and i like to see IF that reset fix something, (just in case)

Whenever you are ready.
Ok, after the reset I can test around 20 movies in 4K, 1080p, 720p, all of them into MKV container.
With the new player the subtitles doesn’t show up in the right way, I mean, nevermid if they are pgs or srt embedded into the mkv sometimes they dissapear for some seconds, the subs comes and goes, sometimes appears and quick dissapear.
I tested back with the old player and they works fine.
I’m don’t transcode anything, I have a 4K TV and has no sense transcode anything into the same LAN. Direct play and stream are checked, the players (both) reports direct play in the info.
The server is over windows 10 x64 i7 7700k processor and 32 GB RAM. the LAN is wired over a switch with 1 GB port (cat 6 wire).
About the GUI (sorry about the pics, I’m not a phone device guy)
That happends random with the background of the playlist.
Refreshing problems. In this case, i mark how unwatched that movie but still in progress, and don’t show the triangle in the right upper corner. I need to close the Plex APP and open it again and voilá, the info is refreshed. Why is that?
First image after close the app, second image after reopen the app

PGS subtitles still having problems, sometimes skip parts or show to fast to read, like a flash. Testing the same video file with srt embedded into MKV container seems solve the issue, so PGS is the target. Don’t ask for kind of file, I test for you around 20 different videos. Nevermind if it is 4K, 108op, 720p, mp4, vc-1, HEVC, etc. The issue still there.
If you want that i take my phone and made a video showing the issue, let me know.

I can reproduced this. Will discuss with dev.
