[BUG] Intermittent transcoding on LG WebOS when direct playing

@ChuckPa I know you were chatting with the app team previously, but are you aware if this matter is still being reviewed internally? I’ve just tested the New Transcoder Preview version of PMS and it’s still dropping back to transcoding after 3 minutes of playback. I’ll add logs to the transcoder preview thread but it’d be nice to have some recognition that Plex are aware of this issue and looking into it…

Just started using Plex like a month ago and was running fine until last updates broke direct play on 4K HDR content.
Downgrading to 1.15.1.791 solved my issue thank you. Waiting for Plex team to solve this issue than I update again.

Hey guys I was just made aware of this thread from a user in Subtitles stop working after a short time in MKV

I know (in the build I linked in the thread above) we fixed an issue where seeking/resuming would cause subtitles to stop showing, I wonder if that was also causing direct play to fallback to a transcode. Could you guys please test and report back?

I’ll try to test later this week and see if I can reproduce the issue in the test build

@chrisallen I tried the test build earlier today but it was still falling back a few minutes after any subtitles had been displayed. The only time it didn’t do it is when the movie is played back from the start without pausing or seeking during playback, but that was also the case for post 1.15.1 builds.

I’m happy to get logs from the test build if you think they’ll help?

Thanks @Krazeh for checking, and providing some hints to when it occurs. I’ll dig into this as I think it’s related to the areas that we fixed subtitle issues.

Could you DM me the name and details of a video file that reliably reproduces this issue? that is key to debugging and testing a fix. Could you also share the exact time in the file that it falls back?

Good news!

Thanks to @Krazeh and his info via DM, We were able to reproduce and resolve this issue. A fix will be included in one of the next PMS beta releases

@chrisallen do you have any rough eta on when your preview build might be ready for testing? Looking forward to seeing the end of this particular issue!

Great news! Thank you!

Hey guys, I am working on a preview build for you guys to test this fix with

Hi @chrisallen, we’re waiting for it :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey guys here is a link to an alpha version that contains the fix for this issue, and also includes all the other subtitle and transcoder fixes from the other forum thread.

Please let me know if there is a platform missed in the list above and I’ll add a link

I’ll check it out, thanks for all your efforts!

Have done some initial testing with the Ubuntu version and I’ve been unable to replicate the issues. Subtitles are showing up when they should and the playback isn’t falling back to transcoding whether I start a movie from the beginning, or part way through, or do any seeking while playing. Fingers crossed the problem is solved.

Hi Guys… apparently the issue is solved right now, I’ve been unable to replicate this Issue, before this changes when I tried to move forward or backward the movie the Disk Read % went up until 100% of use and Plex server start to transcoding, now it doesn’t happens any more… thank you so much @Krazeh and @chrisallen.

We’re back in business

I had the same problem too. Very annoying. I even updated router and hard drives. Finallly this update solved the problem completely. Thanks!

ugh accidently deleted original instead of editing

the above alpha has been repeatedly getting hung (and maxing out cpu procs) with the below and attached tmp files.

the tmp files have the exact same file list.

I suspect either file corruption (unlikely since they no problems previously), or the scanner doesn’t like the file names (hand ful of unicode special characters filenames towards the bottom of the file lists).

plextmptxt.zip (91.0 KB)

plex logs were sent via pm previously

After the last server update, videos keep buffering and stuck for seconds, tried everything and reverted to the previous version, which fixed the problem. Is there a bug?
