[BUG] Intermittent transcoding on LG WebOS when direct playing

You will want to stay on the build linked in my post further up as it has the fix for this, which is NOT in the 1.17.0 release. It will however be included in the next PMS beta release.

Hi thanks for your effort but even after this update it keeps buffering and starts and stops every video every 2 seconds!

That’s probably not the same issue. What sort of file are you trying to play? How’s your TV connected to the Plex server?

Hevc, it’s connected via Wi-Fi, didn’t have a problem before, and no prob with Netflix etc, my speed is fast enough.

Need all the details of the video. Can you get and post the XML details of one your files that exhibits this problem? https://support.plex.tv/articles/201998867-investigate-media-information-and-formats/ explains how to get the XML file.

You need to save the XML file locally on your PC and then upload it here, you can’t just link to it.

oh!ok when I tried to do that ,it says the file is not authorized,it is saved as an xml file

Also I tried to play the videos without subs and they work fine,I don’t know if this helps!thanks

I suspect they’re PGS subtitles which means Plex needs to transcode the video and burn them in. This is resource intensive and will usually lead to buffering. If you want to use subtitles you really need SRT ones.

In that case it might be a TrueHD audio track causing the transcode. It’d be helpful to have the XML for a video that does this, or a screenshot of the file info page. Also, when you’re playing the file does the server say it’s transcoding or direct playing/streaming?

I have that issue too. It happens when I try to play videos with TrueHD and I select SRT subtitles. If I don’t select any subtitles, then Plex doesn’t transcode and all works well, so I think there is a bug with that. With XPlay I can play files with TrueHD and SRT subtitles without any problem.

In any case, seems to be a different issue.

The new Plex Media Server Beta 1.18.0.1846 release contains the fixes for this issue. If you still have an issue with PMS direct playing, and then switching to transcode mid-playback when soft subtitles are enabled, please open a new topic :slight_smile:
