[bug] nvidia shield sub, next video freeze and auto skip intro

I sometimes encounter some problems with:

  • the subtitles in ass format sometimes take time to load at the start of the video or when rewinding/fast-forwarding, the subtitles take a few seconds to appear.
  • with the link to the next episode, sometimes and rarely it happens that the passage to the next episode blocks, the spinner never ends, forced to do a back and restart the video
  • the auto skip intro/credit animation, the progression appears properly during first video playback, but on the following video, the progression animation on the skip button does not occur

I don’t use everything you describe here but it sounds like you’re on Shield Firmware 9.1.1?

If so, try the hotfix.

Hello,

thx for your reply, yes I use the latest version 9.1.1, but the problems mentioned are specific to plex and not to the shield, I have none of the problems mentioned in the release note.
The fact that the patch is not certified, that it is impossible to roll back, and that some people are having more problems with this patch for the Shield Pro 2019 puts me off a bit

For roll back goto downloadpage and use the NVIDIA SHIELD ANDROID TV 2019 Pro Recovery OS Image, it will restore 9.0.0.

https://developer.download.nvidia.com/assets/gameworks/downloads/regular/howtoflash/How-To-Flash-Recovery-Image.txt

thx, but it’s impossible to comeback to 9.1.1 without apply the fix, because it is impossible to remove access to the hotfix once requested, and intermediate updates are not offered.

you use this version hotfix on shield pro 2019 ?

Yes of course, I probably had half of the problems that were fixed with the hotfix.
With 9.1.1 I would have thrown the box out the window long ago.

Ok thx for your feedback,
Well I made the request to have the update. I hope that nvidia will release a new update signed

Nvidia probably won’t do anything anymore. Nvidia has stopped product support. There are neither new updates nor any answers in the Nvidia forum.

If you are totally dissatisfied, you can also go back to version 8.2.3 with Android 9. This is also quite stable, but has problems for some people with AVR and DTS HRA films, for example.

I who bought several shields :(, but well I did not find any other alternative worthy of the name

Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 is a great Box with 8.2.3 or 9.2.0.

Plex has actually some problems, but good working will this Versions:

Plex Player 10.22

And Plex Server 1.40.4.8679

Later Server Version made problem for some user. You will found here many problem threads with server 1.40.5.8921 or newer.

9.2.0 was a hot-fix which was targeted for specific issues.
9.1.1 was the official release.

If I were to start changing, I would target 9.1.1 as my Shield’s “Experience OS” as I have no issues with it on my AVR and anything Dolby.

Well I did the update on one of my shields, for the moment everything is fine, I even gained 1GB of storage, I think I had the wifi log problem even though I use ethernet.

For the plex alpha a will wait the release, there is more chance of having plex updates than nvidia updates

And for the server part i use a dedicate server (geekom nuc with win11)

I quickly tested plex, crunchyroll and prime video, I was a little afraid that it would no longer work because the firmware is not certified

Hello, i test more the hotfix (shield) there is no impact on the bugs I mentioned, they are very specific to plex and are still present
