So as the title suggests, Plex straight up just crashes and/or freezes (requiring a hard reboot of the shield) whenever I fast forward or rewind. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
Things I have tried:
Different Plex Player versions
Different Plex Server Versions
Factory Reset of Shield
Uninstall/reinstall Plex App
Clearing app cache/data on Shield
Is this a Shield issue from the latest update? 9.1 or whatever it was? Because I am trying multiple versions of Plex and they are all not working. I KNOW some of these versions worked fine in the past.
EDIT: I fixed this in case anyone has the same problem. The issue is on the side of the Nvidia shield. It is the “Dolby Audio Processing” option. You need to turn this off (but you may lose atmos.) This setting used to have no issues but for some reason it now causes the above issue with remux files when it is on, post-9.1 update.
Yes I have it too. I do not have a shield. I have a android TV device and it started since an update not too long ago. For me it seems to only happen when I skip backwards. Every few skips plex will spontaneously restart itself. Very annoying.
I also just tested it only happens with dolby files. I disabled dolby digital in android then the file won’t play at all. So that’s not a solution.
I can confirm that disabling the “Dolby Audio Processing” option in NVidia Shield Pro solved the problem of crashing when doing a FF/RW during video playback. The setting is in the Shield itself, not within the Plex app.
Based on some reading online, it sounds like the behaviour of the setting changed in the most recent version, and it was automatically turned on by default.
@munchmunch, because the NVidia Shield is based on Android, I wonder if this is a problem with Android TV as a whole. That might explain why you’re seeing it, too. Does your device have any settings to disable Dolby Audio Processing?
I have a few dolby options on my device. I disabled one at a time each not doing anything until one of them and then the video file would not play at all. I can however confirm that I had the dolby settings on android TV for years now all switched on and this problem started only recently maybe 3 months ago after a plex update. I can. Also confirm that it only happens on videos that have full souround as I can see on my receiver when that is enabled. I thought it did not happen on skip forward but last night I tested and it does.
It has become such an issue now I might have to switch to emby or something as its become unusable. Hoping for a fix soon. Also its plex that crashes not my android TV.
