Bug on iOS and iPadOS - can't swipe up to Home Screen immediately after pausing

Been seeing this for a few weeks now.

Once I pause a video and swipe up to go to the Home Screen, there’s at least a 3-5 second delay. I can’t even lock/turn off the screen. I need this fixed please

Not clear which version of the app you are using since you tagged this ios-legacy . That old app is not supported anymore and won’t receive any updates.

What is the version number of the app you are using?

I apologize. I didn’t notice the legacy tag  I am on the new iOS app v2025.28.0. Not legacy or older versions. Same with iPadOS as well, whichever is the latest version of the app and also the latest OS26 versions on both. What should I change the tag to?

Just the plain ios tag but I have changed it.

Which model iPhone and/or iPad do you have? I could not reproduce on my iPad and gonna need to see if folks in QA can reproduce.

I have the iPhone 17 Pro and M5 iPad Pro both running stable OS26 builds. But I also noticed this on my 16 Pro a few weeks ago but I thought it was because I was on the Beta build back then. I’ll try to see if I can record a video some time later today.

I just realized i am not on iOS 26 yet so that may be why i can’t repro

Same issue on my M4 iPad Pro on iPadOS 18.7.1. It freezes the entire OS for a couple of seconds, I have never seen anything like that (I use iPads since the very first one).

Plex app version 2025.28.0. Reinstalling doesn’t fix the issue. One more peculiar thing: it never happens while screen recording is on, hence the handheld video.

Here’s video.

Yep!!! Same here! Never tried screen recording, but that’s good to know too lol.

Hope they fix it soon

I was curious if it happens with all playback sources. Like if it is only transcoded media or direct play. Does it happen if playing one of our streaming movies for example.

Also is picture in picture enabled? ( it is enabled on mine where i can’t repro but figured i would ask)

just realized i dont think PiP can be disabled completely

It comes and goes. Right now, 20 minutes after making that video, I’m unable to reproduce it at all. Other times (with the same video!) it happens all the time. It looks it happens more with Direct playback - I’m trying now to invoke the bug with live transcoded video and it’s not happening.

Yes it’s happening with PiP enabled. I don’t see an option to disable it.

ok thank you.

Relatively new to plex - does transcoded media mean my personal media on my server that I’m playing remotely? And direct play means plex’s native videos? Coz I have never ever used the movies that Plex provides for free. Or even through connected streaming platforms. I solely use Plex with my personal server at home and use both remote and local playback, and “Original” quality at all times.

I can reproduce it 80% of the time.

No, media from your server can play either directly (by streaming the original file), or transcoded (either transcoded in advance or live while playing) - transcoding is used mainly as a means of saving data on expensive or slow connections, or if the playback device cannot play the original.

It happened again, with transcoding, so that’s not it. And now it’s happening every time again (it was fine for half an hour). This is an M4 Pro, I don’t think it’s a hardware bottleneck.

yeah i am starting to think it has to do with PiP but like in your video i am trying to do it multiple times in a row but just can’t repro. thank you for the logs hopefully it will tell the apple player devs something.

Here’s some more logs after it happened quite a few times.

I dont think its PiP since this only happens after pausing the video and trying to close the app, at which point, PiP isnt triggered at all. It works perfectly fine when i try to go Home while playing the videos. It successfully goes into PiP and continues playing as expected.

Possibly not just trying to find the commonality. PiP tends to invoke very sporadically for me and thought it might be related. and in the first few moments of @Stooovie 's video they did not pause. maybe you can watch the video and see it is seems the same.

What @smummaka says is correct though. It happens even with paused video, where PiP doesn’t engage.
