Bug or Intended Feature - Adding multiple collections to music playlist?

This might just be how Plex works. Another user posted a Feature Request and I was sure it could be done using Collections. But when I tested, I couldn’t achieve it.

I can’t create a music playlist from multiple collections. If you go into Collections, you can select the radio button of more than one Collection, and then it lets you choose to add to a playlist. When I add more than one collection to a playlist, the playlist is empty. Do playlists simply support only having one collection? Why does it allow me to add them if that is the case?

Is this just me following a bad process?

I think I see now. You can do it with Artist Collections and Album Collections, but there is no such thing as a “Track Collection”. Which is what two of my test collections were. This isn’t a bug. There just isn’t support for this specific use case.

I think it is just a “limitation” currently.

I can reproduce. I’m not sure if the bug in generating the playlist of showing the “add to” option for multiple collections. I will find out.

Not sure what you mean by this.

My two example collections were made up of individual tracks from disc 1 of an album.

What I meant was, there is no real reason to want to combine two collections solely made up of tracks. The same thing can be achieved by making a single collection / playlist of all the tracks to start with. Which is how I am sure Plex is meant to work. But it probably shouldn’t try to generate a playlist in my scenario above. Not sure on intended functionality there. I think you’re def thinking about it the right way. Thanks for looking.

EDIT:

  • I tested again. I made four collections. Two collections each made up of albums, then two made up of artists.

  • Then I tried to add the two album collections to a playlist and the playlist came out empty.

  • Then I added both artist collections to a playlist and it came out empty.

  • Then I added an album and an artist collection to a playlist and it came out empty.

Obviously this isn’t a huge issue because clearly I can just build playlists and include everything when I build it. You know better than I if this should or shouldn’t work. At this point I am just reporting it for what it’s worth to Plex / others. If that makes sense.
