I prefer collections, but devoted a lot of time to creating music playlists before music collections were a thing. So I have a bunch of playlists that I would actually like as collections. Currently it is not possible to mass select and add items on a playlist to a collection. For example I have a 1500+ party playlist that I would like to select all and add to “Party Collection”
I would like to be able to create collections from imported playlists. It would be nice to have an ‘add to collection’ from inside playlists to enable this feature.
There’s an existing suggestion asking for an option to filter a library for members of a playlist.
With that you could also easily create a new collection (advanced filter by playlist presence → save as collection). Alternatively you could select the filtered content and use the add-to menu to add the items to an existing collection.
It’s not the same approach you’re describing but would enable the same outcome.
As long as there is no out of the box solution in Plex itself, you may use a python script to create collections from playlists, see here
