Frankly this has to be a bug accident because I can’t think of any reason why you’d intentionally default it to a quality that hasn’t been relevant in years on a brand new app who’s main feature is the ability to play original quality. Especially in a world where Netflix and Youtube default to 1080p.
At minimum, unconfigured clients should play 1080p.
I just reported something similar here: PMP resets settings after entering TV mode - can you confirm if that’s the same issue? That is, if it happens whenever you switch to TV mode and back, and if the other settings (hidden advanced settings + icon size + 12-hour clock) are also affected?
Yeah I just got done telling all my users to install the new application, and got complaints that the new app is really bad quality. Come to find out it’s these broken settings.
We’ve always defaulted to 2mbps 720p for remote playback. So, a fresh installation playing from a remote server will default to the reduced quality. Change the Internet Streaming Video Quality seen here:
This is a 10+ year old default. Things have changed. Don’t you think it’s time to revisit this decision, instead of dismissing user feedback out of hand because “we’ve always done it this way”
I couldn’t agree more. Time moves on as do connection speeds.
We now have server settings to control this. Not a perfect solution in all cases for sure but generally they work as a catch-all.
Having to explain to remote users on their ever-changing UI’s how to change their 2Mbps setting over the phone is painful at best but it’s pretty much pointless trying to explain to the average 70 year old.
I can always travel 90 miles to sort it out for them I guess.
