Bug: Plex App won't allow insecure connections even when settings configured to allow

Server Version#: 4.125.1
Player Version#: “3.13.14 Linux 0”
Television model: ATVIO AT-40EA20PL

Situation: Player displays an error to the user that the server is not secure if the user attempts to connect to an insecure server. It also recommends to the user to go into the settings and allow insecure connections if you want to proceed.

Bug: Player still displays this error AFTER user has gone into the settings and said to allow connections to insecure server “Always”. I’m thinking that setting it to Always should bypass this error and allow the connection to take place.

Other environment considerations: The server sometimes is running a VPN that causes the insecure server error message. Disabling the VPN is required to bypass the “insecure server” error. Ideally the setting to connect to insecure servers should work and user should be able to connect anyway. Or the Plex relay should at least be working. Instead, it is totally broken and requires the VPN to be totally off.

Allow me to make the point differently so you can understand the issue: My iPhone running the Plex app can still access the server via Plex Relay. But this smart TV cannot. It is displaying a false error that the “server is offline or unreachable” and that “device requires secure connections yet something is interfering.”

  1. Plex Relay works on my smartphone without issue. Why is it not working on the TV?
  2. Both the client and server are configured to allow fallback to insecure connections, yet the TV is not allowed to continue.
