[BUG] Plex claims library is empty when recommendations are turned off

Server Version: 1.27.2.5929
Player Version: 1.48.2.3124-647ff031

I have a working plex server on my synology nas.
After I turned off all recommendations for all libraries, when I click on a library in either the web interface or the windows app, it opens the “recommended” tab which claims:

“Library” is empty
Expecting more? Visit the Manage Libraries page to add folders and scan library files.

When I click on the “Library” tab on the top I can see the content. This is not a bug with my clients, because others see the same issue.

I consider this a bug because: It claims the library would be empty, although it is not. What is empty is the recommendations, not the library. This is irritating for users.

I suggest that either:

  • Plex should offer a way to disable recommendation tabs / recommendations all together
  • Plex should state: “Recommendations are empty, check out the Library tab” and show a link to the library tab next to this statement.

Thanks for taking care of this!

This is not a server version. Current Public is 1.27.2
Please check again. Settings - Server - General.

Do you actually have media indexed?

You are correct, 1.48… is probably the player version. I have edited the post.
The installed synology package version is 1.27.2.5929

Yes, I do have media indexed. It shows up in the “library” tab of the library. And that is exactly why I report this as a bug. The library has content, yet the “Recommendations” tab claims otherwise.

I followed this tutorial by Plex to disable all recommendations (all checkboxes are unchecked)

Would it be possible to get the DEBUG logs ZIP file ?
I’d like just to make certain nothing is obvious/broken.

If not then there will be a setting somewhere (and I’ll get us help for that; I’m the platform guy)

→ removed logs for privacy reasons ←

Sure
Thanks for taking a look!

Thanks for the logs.

As I suspected , the server itself is fine. We don’t have a server or platform problem

I use Linux so can’t use the player app you do.

So I get this issue in the right place , may I ask ?

  1. You’re using the Plex player on windows ?
  2. It’s the windows player app where you have an issue ?
  3. If you open the Plex/web (browser app), which shows Recommended & Library on the same page, everything is ok?

Thanks for taking a look.

Yes I use plex player on Windows, but Plex.tv shows the same behavior. I noticed that when I have an unfinished movie, it shows up on the recommended tab and the error is gone, since the recommended tab now has content. But when I finish watching that the error is back. I think it’s not an issue related to any platform.

I assume: As soon as there is no content for the recommended tab, it claims the library would be empty, although it’s not.

Can you show me what you see from the recommended page?

If there is an unfinished media, I see “continue watching” for that media. if there is none, I see the screenshot in my original post.

I can’t replicate that in Plex/web.

I will get someone who knows the windows app to come look.

sorry I couldn’t be of any help

→ I marked it as complete

But the library is not empty.

It’s not the windows app. Plex.tv web abb has the same issue. To me, it seems to be a mistake in the code.

it’s super easy to replicate:

Go to settings → Manage → Libraries → remove all checkmarks from “Library recommended” and you should see the same behavior.
If I turn on even one of the recommendations, it shows up the recommendation. If you turn that recommendation off, the issue is visible

If there is any way to interact with Plex support other than the forums, I can shows you the issue live on my PC

If I were to sum this up –

When there are no recommendations (whether turned off or everything played),

You would like to see “There are no recommendations at this time”
or words to the similar ?

No. If there are not recommendations, it claims the library would be empty, as shown in the screenshot in the original post

Please read again??

I read your message 6 times now, I am still not sure what you are asking for.

Current situation: When there are no recommendations, it claims the library would be empty (see screenshot in my original post) although it is not.

What it should do: Check if the library is empty. if the library is empty, say it’s empty. if the library is not empty, say something like “there are no recommendations, switch to the library tab”.

I ask:

When there is no content to display in the “Recommended” tab,

Would you prefer it state " There are no recommendations at this time " ?

Ah yeah. That would make sense.
And I think telling the user to switch to the library tab might be helpful as well.

Thank you.

I’ll forward that.

Now that we’ve sorted this out (thank you)
I’ll move your thread over to the player section so they can ask you questions should there be any.

Thanks for your quick support!!!
