[Bug] PLEX fails when attempting to play next item on playlist - NVidia Shield Pro

Plex crashes on my Nvidia Shield Pro when attempting to play the next item on a playlist.

Here is an example with logs.

Doctor Who has short specials scattered between the seasons and episodes. I chose to play item 94 on the playlist (Season 0 Episode 55) because it was only a couple minutes long and would help expedite testing. Item 95 (Season 6 Episode 12) should play next.

I went ahead and tested this scenario on my laptop (PLEX for Windows Version 1.42.1.2926-415b0e14) and everything worked fine.

I then tested the scenario on my NVidia Shield. Item 94 played normally and then PLEX crashed on the NVidia Shield Pro and reloaded to the PLEX Home Screen.

I then enabled network logging to get the Client Log and also generated Server Logs:

Description of events:

  1. Started playlist item 90.
  2. Item 90 played and finished without problems.
  3. PLEX crashed without playing item 91 (spinning circle, black screen, then PLEX logo). Event occurs around time stamp 04-08 18:54 in the player log
  4. PLEX rebooted to the Home screen.
  5. Activated Network Logging and generated client and server logs.

Problem persists: PLEX crashes when attempting to play next item on playlist.

I only encounter this problem on my Nvidia Shields. I have 2 Shield Pros and 1 Shield Tube and they all have this error. Playlists work fine on the PLEX clients on my Windows laptop and my iPad.

Problem occurred around the 04-29 19:52:xx timestamp.

Plex did not crash this time but does not play the correct item from the playlist.

Details for today’s test:
The Doctor Who series has a number of specials (Christmas Specials, mini episodes, etc.) that occur between the regular season episodes.

I built my Doctor Who playlist based on this article’s watch order:

Here is a screenshot of the playlist for this test’s episodes:

For today’s test I chose to start item 64 on the playlist. This should result in the following play order:
S00E67 → S05E02

I tested this out on the following devices:
Windows Laptop running Plex for Windows Version 1.44.0.2981-e2d72ac2
iPad Pro runing Plex Version 8.2
NVidia Shield TV Pro running Client Version 9.2.0.32419 beta

Playlists worked as expected on the Windows Laptop and iPad Pro clients but failed to play the correct next episode on the NVidia Shield TV Pro. Instead, the Shield played the next episode in the Specials season folder (S00E67 → S00E68).

So in this test, the Shield did not crash after the first episode but chose to ignore the playlist order and chose to play the next episode in season.

Please let me know if there is any additional information I could provide that will help rectify this problem. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Plex failed to play next item on playlist and played a different episode instead.

Playlists are still broken. Plex for Android TV is not recognizing my playlist order. It is still exhibiting the same behavior I described in my May 7 post in this thread.

Playlists function correctly in Plex for iOS and Windows. I am only encountering this error on Plex for Android TV.

fwiw i am also having this issue. instead of playing next playlist item which is a different series altogether, it tries to autoplay the next episode of the season that I’m currently watching

Update: I sideloaded older versions of plex on my shield until I found one that didn’t have my playlist bug.

8.26.2 seems to work (will continue to monitor).

8.27.0 plays the wrong episode.
